Trump 2016: Less of a Jerk in Person than you Would Think

So I had a little chat with Donald last night. In front of a few thousand people I asked him a question.

I was sitting about 25 feet from him so I got to study him for 20 minutes of talking and 10 minutes of questions. He came for the fund raiser which did not benefit his finances but rather Nevada republicans. He is a dynamic public speaker and is very much a politician. He spoke with a small cheat sheet but he is far faster on his feet mentally than I expected. The arrogance and bluster were apparent but also what was apparent to me is that he’s less of a narcissist than I thought. He took the time to thank a lot of different groups and also praised Reince Preibus at one point which was interesting.

I highly doubt now he’s a stalking horse and I expect him to play this out til Election Day. Hillary won’t do well debating him regardless of how many smart drugs she takes.

He is very good at identifying problems that the audience identifies with and very short on actual solutions beyond saying he can do better. He acknowledged his gaffes but also attacked the media for preordained narratives.

He took about 10 questions , all unscripted, and deftly deflected a couple kooks asking about Bilderbergs and what not. Quicker than I expected he studies a question and has a response with a talking point even if it’s not a direct answer. He’s been coached well recently and it shows.

Well I stood up and asked him about health care. He sort of answered. I’d link the video but I have no clue how to get a video from my phone to here. I almost don’t want to know how such technology works.

I don’t know much about boxing, but I’m on tenterhooks to learn the etymology of this word.

That word is genius, and I’m keepin’ it.

LLOOOLL IPHONE WROTE THAT!! I needed that after someone posted an old RICO article about how people who question the Iraq War are certifiable. Since I’m here working on logs for PTSD Vets who were in that war. I was this close from deleting my account.

Do not ever care about what someone on the net thinks for more than a few seconds.  I try to follow that advice but don’t always have success.   At least email me before you do.

DocJay:Geoff, they had combat vets doing the pledge of allegiance but that was our GOP here.

Who knows what Trump thinks but he paid homage to our service members. He said we needed to build the military again which is nice and also ominous.

I have a kid who will be deployed somewhere in a year or so and I think about our current president and Hillary who both have (I perceive ) an immense disdain for our soldiers.

I feel like an idiot defending that other article about Trump Racism after someone linked an article by the same author who said anyone who thinks the Iraq War was a conspiracy was “certifiably paranoid”. While I don’t believe the Government is smart enough to orchaestrate alphabetization let alone conspiracy, she effectively called me and the majority of people I work with “Certifiable”. I pride myself on not being offended and I was seeing red. Its funny because I became a Liberal after the Iraq War not because of racism or wanting stuff. Because I questioned the Iraq War & people like that Author called me Crazy & a Traitor. So I ran as fast and far from the GOP and conservatism as possible. I don’t blame the people who said it then, I always blame Politicians for duping us.

But I will never stop calling out the Government on unnecessary war. If they send youre kid on some BS, I will be right with you yelling and  screaming for answers.

    Upfront NeverTrump.

I do not like Trump’s public persona. Never have. But much as I dislike what the man has done in his halfhearted pursuit of the White House, I have heard too many people tell me of the man behind the scenes who does not match who is before the cameras.

Which raises questions. Why is he different? Is he playing a role? It would seem so. But why this one? I don’t for a moment believe he is conservative, but against Hillary I’ll settle for a decent person. But he presents an insufferable, ignorant ass. Is this what he thinks of us? What he think Republicans want? Is there some insecurity making him put up what he thinks is a stronger public front? For that matter, who is really the real you – the person in private, the person in public? Whats says more about your character – how you treat friends and family, or how you treat strangers?

Alas, I do not know the Trump DocJay saw, and cannot judge him based on the say so of others. It is a shame if there is a better man hiding behind a farce.

I would love to know the questions he got asked Doc. His skin does appear thin, and when asked about his own flaws, he gets defensive and punchy and loses his sense of humor. Look at Megyn Kelly. She asked a perfectly fair question, and he wouldn’t let it go for months.

Mister D, he dodged two alt right kooks ( a couple ) and laughed off something silly.

He promised conservative second amendment justices to a NRA man behind me who asked a pointed question.

His is thinner skinned than he should be ( no doubt ) but that wasn’t on display  last night.

Obama has the same issue but rarely gets challenged.

    From https://www.donaldjtrump.com/about

Mr. Trump has long been a devoted supporter of veteran causes. In 1995, the fiftieth anniversary of World War II, only 100 spectators watched New York City’s Veteran Day Parade. It was an insult to all veterans. Approached by Mayor Rudy Giuliani and the chief of New York City’s FBI office, Mr. Trump agreed to lead as Grand Marshall a second parade later that year. Mr. Trump made a $1 million matching donation to finance the Nation’s Day Parade. On Saturday, November 11th, over 1.4 million watched as Mr. Trump marched down Fifth Avenue with more than 25,000 veterans, some dressed in their vintage uniforms. A month later, Mr. Trump was honored in the Pentagon during a lunch with the Secretary of Defense and the entire Joint Chiefs of Staff.

That has been there in paragraph 2 at least since January (when I browsed his webpage During his first rush of momentum), and if true, it speaks to me of someone genuinely fond of US veterans. Here’s a more extensive discussion I found. http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2016/01/flashback-trump-saved-ny-veterans-day-parade/

Geoff: (Sorry I just joined a boxing class and I’m obsessed.)

That’s awesome!  You’ll get all kinds of good cardio, ‘n stuff.

Then, when you’re ready to learn how to fight, pick up jiujitsu.  After about two years of that, break and take about two years of Judo.  Then go back to jiujitsu.

Then, go back to boxing, because while boxing combos are some of the worst things you can do in a real fight, they are some of the best things to set up appropriate end-states.

Oh, did I go off topic?  Lo siento mucho!

    Yay Trump! Sorta.

Al Sparks:I’ve had the same impression of Trump over the last 3-4 months. There are also no stream of stories of people who used to work for him coming out on how bad a person he is, and the media has tried to find them. There’s no stories of personal one on one bad behavior racially either.

Yes, I noticed that too.  Not sure how much of it has to do with the NDAs they’re all required to sign, though.

He certainly is much better at ‘the common touch,’ than Mrs Clinton, I’ll give him that.

It is encouraging to hear that he’s better in person than on TV  (although my first thought when reading the post title was, ‘Well, that’s a pretty low bar.’)   How can his TV presence be improved?

The title should be a bumper sticker.  I stole the idea partially from @davidsussman

The somewhat softer version of him would play well.

He’s going out of his way to distance himself from the alt right crowd lately at least that’s my impression.

My hope is that he beats Hillary and then gets some competent people around him and a fellow by his side saying ,”thou art mortal” every 20 minutes or so.

Oh I was quoting some comedy about Caeser with the thou art mortal.

I assume he’d treat the job like a business.

He brought up China having their top 20 negotiators in a room against one of our diplomats and said he’d get better negotiators and do it better etc.

See, I don’t get why he doesn’t treat outreach like advertisement. Fighting the racist thing is playing on Hillary’s turf. He should know better than anyone to switch Demographic profiling. Broad youth appeal. But then, here is where I think GOP probably censors his good ideas.

Its really not alright to joke about Mental Health and War. Ive been called every racial epithet in the book and laughed it off, but that stuff enrages me. Its one of very few things that do.

Fake discs helped my Neuro issues and I’ve been back in the gym lifting and also playing some hoops although haven’t played more competitive stuff since I’m an under the basket thug and don’t want to take an elbow.

Palace. Summer 89.   I was a beach bum in Pacific Beach my very last free summer ever.  A friend grabbed me.  Wasn’t familiar except from him.    I didn’t do the LA scene much.  Anyway I was nice and toasty.
