Cruz Suspends Presidential Campaign

From Politico:

Ted Cruz is quitting the presidential race, according to campaign manager Jeff Roe, ending one of the best-organized campaigns of 2016 after a series of stinging defeats left Donald Trump as the only candidate capable of clinching the nomination outright.

Cruz had appeared likely to go all the way to the Republican convention, but a string of massive losses in the Northeast, and his subsequent defeat in Indiana, appear to have convinced him there’s no way forward.

John Kasich, however, pledged on Tuesday night to stay in the race until a candidate reaches 1,237 bound delegates.

    GirlWithAPearl:Lily: Trumpublicans – fantastic.

with a hat tip to jay nordlinger, the choice before us is between rodham and gommorah

    That’s funny!

(Wish I could take credit for Trumpublicans – saw it somewhere tonight and have decided to adopted it)

If it weren’t for Superdelegates in the DNC system, Sanders might have been able to win the nomination. A lot of Dems voted for Hillary because “Well, the Superdelegates are on her side, so I might as well go with the winner”.

Watching Trump’s speech right now. It’s pretty good. Contrary to all the claims that his campaign is all about anger, he talks about love and calls things “beautiful” quite a bit. He was gracious to the other candidates.

He wants to unite and take on Hillary.

My choice for the music is the prelude to Act 3 of Tristan und Isolde, especially the English horn solo that starts near the end.

I felt similar in 1976, which gives me hope.

Speaking for myself, I’m going to have a hard time voting Republican even down ballot this time, so utterly did the party fail to prevent this disaster.

Think long term. Hilary will be a democrat.  It will be (another) bad four years.  Trump is a know-nothing. (Did you hear his incoherent speech few minutes ago?)  He will do as much or more damage than Clinton, but will destroy the “conservative” and what’s left of the Republican brand. He will “justify” all the lies the left tells about republicans and conservatives.  The choice seems pretty clear.

Katievs, I am thinking the same thing.  Heck, if conservatism really is dead, and the politicians we elect don’t conduct themselves as conservatives then why vote for any of them?

GirlWithAPearl:Kozac, that paragraph perfectly describes trump. Where have you been, do you only watch hannity and read breitbart? My god you are in for a surprise.

I never watch or follow either. I read NR, here, and various and sundry other places.  I do know that people who have known Trump for a long time, like Larry Kudlow, and Rudy Guiliani among others I respect have either supported him, or at least stated he’s not the cartoon many here seem to believe.

In our house we will hold our noses and vote for Trump.

    Searching for happy thoughts:

    Barry will finally be out.

The old lady may get her comeuppance.

There are young and talented Republicans aplenty.

Rebuilding brings out the best in true conservatives.

I have beautiful grandkids. (So we must soldier on.)

Nick Stuart:OK, my guy lost, and quit the race.

So apparently it’s Trump v. Clinton.

Think about that before the whining starts. That’s the choice. Unless you are absolutely indifferent as to who wins, you need to pick one or the other.

LOL you still think we have a choice.  Here’s how this will go down.  The day after the convention the press will unleash every piece of dirt they have on Trump and keep it up until the election.  Vola!  Hillary’s in!  It’s so easy to play us.

Now begins the parade of up-sucking, the long line of supplicants, the ring-kissers, the apple-polishers, the catamites eager for a taste of liver-spotted hand, and all the other intellectually flexible party stalwarts looking to climb on the painted horse and look like they’ve been on the carousel all along. Here comes the Establishment, to fasten on Trump like a suit of remoras. He’ll twist and turn before the mirror and conclude it looks pretty damn good. It’s what winners wear.

I would say it slightly differently.

Previously, I held a rebuttable presumption that the Republican was clearly the lesser of two evils in any given race.

With Trump’s nomination, the Republican Party has demonstrated that it fully capable of nominating the greater evil at the national level, so they are clearly capable of worse at the local level.

So, from here on, the Republicans have to earn my vote for every spot on the ballot.

Ted Cruz devoured by the monster he created.

I’m actually very happy right now. It speeds up the death of the “conservative” movement.

Now that we have a conspiracy theorist, sociopath, big-government leftist at the helm of the “conservative” movement, we can finally see their true face. What a pretty face it is.

Not that I didn’t tell you for years that this was what you actually wanted.

My concern is, he got nominated as the cartoon.  Trump ran as the caricature of what the left believes about Republicans – and WON the nomination.

If he isn’t really the cartoon, I can’t stand him for making a mockery of the Republican Primary voters.  If he is the cartoon, he is unfit for President.

Either way, I can’t vote for him for President.
