Why I Might Choose Clinton Over Trump

shutterstock_57845491shutterstock_155865416I can’t stand Hillary Clinton. She is a criminal that should be behind bars for life. However, nothing in her views (as fluid as they are) makes me think she would start a trade war with China. On the other hand, Donald Trump has made demagoguery of China a feature of his campaign. Larry Kudlow’s reassurances notwithstanding, there is a real significant possibility that Trump embraces the same devastating protectionism that kicked the great depression into high gear. In my opinion, nothing is as dangerous to our general prosperity and security as this. Therefore, until I can feel moderately sure that Trump won’t start a trade war, I can’t support him or even stand by and not vote against him.

Please tell me why I’m wrong, Ricochet.  I hate the idea that our system has declined to the point that we have for vote for criminals to save us from disaster.

Misthiocracy:Here’s a thought experiment to help one decide Trump v. Clinton:

Assuming that they’re both crooks with equal odds of committing high crimes and misdemeaners, which one do you think congress is more likely to actually impeach, allowing their Veep to take the top job?

Go with the one that you think is more likely to be impeached.

I was planning to make a post stressing that very point.

So, since the GOP controls the house, we should vote for Clinton

No, not at all.  We have two dangerous wannabe dictators running for president.  We should elect the one that is most easily impeached.

Now who is more impeachable? The first woman president, who is liberal, loved by the press, the IRS, lots of corrupt leftist judges and the entire entertainment industry – or the angry rich white male?

I’ll vote for the removable dictator over the non-removable one.  I think that was Misthiocracy’s point.

Ed G.: Well, only one candidate in the race wants to Make America Great Again. Could you support that guy?

Meh. Every president says they want to Make America great. Obama thought his election was literally going to save the planet. Remember that (he said in Grant Park after all). Hillary argues she wants to make America great too.

What I don’t see in Trump is how he will do it except to elect a great leader like him who will get our military to torture people because he is a great leader.

His insistence on making promises he knows he can’t keep (like getting Mexico to pay for the wall) that leads me to believe that he doesn’t actually have a plan.

    You disagree. That’s fine.

I was joking about supporting a guy because Make America Great Again. Just riffing on your complaint above that we were a once great nation.

Side note: I think claiming victory on Mexico paying for the wall is one of the easy layups of the Trump campaign. He never said he’s going to send them a bill and make them write us a check (I don’t think): they’ll “pay” for the wall via a reduced trade deficit, via decreased remittances from immigrants illegal and legal from here to there, fewer immigrants on our dole and staying on theirs instead and probably other ways I haven’t even thought of. You’re thinking too literal.

Just be sure to incorporate all the variables.  If Clinton isn’t indicted, odds are she can’t be impeached.
