Trump Will “Definitely Not” Participate in Fox News Debate

Donald Trump will not attend the next Republican debate, the presidential candidate’s campaign manager said just minutes after Trump said he “probably” won’t show up.

“I’m going to be making a decision with Fox, but I probably won’t bother doing the debate,” Trump said at a press conference in Iowa Tuesday night. “I’m going to do something else in Iowa. We’ll have something where we raise money for the veterans and the Wounded Warriors, we’ll do something simultaneously with the debate, but most likely I’m not going to do the debate. I didn’t like the fact that they sent out press releases toying, talking about Putin, and playing games. I don’t know what games Roger Ailes is playing, what’s wrong over there? Something’s wrong.”

Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, later told the Washington Post that he will “definitely not” participate in the debate.

After Trump’s threats of a boycott unless Megyn Kelly was banned from the debates, Fox News released a strong statement in her defense:

We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president. A nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings.

He is clearly avoiding a debate with Cruz, and using the Kelly dust-up as cover. It will work to give him Iowa, and he will run the table.

We had one shot to stop Trump, but the establishment couldn’t swallow their pride and push for Cruz. Well, I guess conservatism will be taking a back seat for a while. Still a net-win for us, I think.

Hopefully he doesn’t have to move to phase II, where you incinerate the target area with napalm. It’s the only way to be sure.

    Nuke, not napalm.

As fun as it might be to see Trump irradiate his groin, I think the best we can hope for might be his injudicious use of Nair.

There was another thin-skinned narcissist who refused to participate in Fox News hosted debate.

What was his name again?  Oh yea, Barack Obama.

The similarities between Obama and Trump just keep stacking up.

Rudolf Halbensinn:So Donald Trump will stare down Vladimir Putin and make a ‘deal’ with the Russian strong man.

But he can’t face Megyn Kelly.

I don’t think it’s an inability to face Megyn Kelly. Trump is upstaging Megyn, or pulling the rug out from under Fox, doing something totally unexpected. As president he could possibly handle Putin in the same way (successfully or unsuccessfully).

I don’t like Trump, but I’m liking the fact that the established way of running for office (letting others define how you have to do it) is being turned topsy turvy. It’s very interesting to watch, but I’m a little frightened too.

Majestyk: Enough. Trump is a gilt Kardashian knockoff through whom internet trolls live vicariously as they fantasize about Trump’s (most recent) hot wife. His mien, like his urine-flavored-cotton-candy-hair is tacky. His tastes, like Caligula. His attitudes, like Billy Bob Thornton in “Monster’s Ball.”

Well, now the DSM-6 will have a case study for Trump Derangement Syndrome when it is published during The Donald’s second term.

Or maybe his fourth term after that creaking Constitution is renovated a bit.

I feel the pain, and share some symptoms, having suggested in jest, somewhat, that Trump nominate Ron Jeremy as his running mate to form the full Idiocracy ticket

If fairness, replacing McConnell with a fine Kentucky thoroughbred is not really a bad idea.

    Like Reagan blinked at Reykjavik?

And before anybody hyperventilates, I’m not equating Trump with Reagan. It’s hardly a mark against Trump that he’s not fit to hold Reagan’s coat. That would be an unearned privilege for even the best of men.

Please tell me whether this blink leads to the firing of Megyn Kelly, the downfall of Fox News, or the collapse of the GOP so I can prepare accordingly.

You seem to have a higher opinion of Trump’s influence than I do.

…but, but Reykjavik. That was yuuuge.

Is there a point here, or are you just mumbling out loud?

I was wondering what your point was in bringing up Reykjavik.

No, I don’t think you were. If you had wondered why I brought it up, you would have asked. Instead, because you disagree, you countered. Not effectively, but there it is.

Did it occur to you that I disagree AND I wonder why you brought it up? …and that you still haven’t explained your point?

I asked in the form of a multiple choice question, but feel free to answer any way you like.

Jim… You come out praising Trump for “standing up” to Fox. And this doesn’t seem a bit … Well, satirical?

No, I don’t care who the left puts forward and who moderates, if we don’t have an actual candidate, it doesn’t make a lick of difference. You’re praising the fact that we get a nice new suit and coat, perfectly content that they’re worn by a donkey, and people are more likely to see the ass than the wool…

Let’s have a real debate with real candidates so we can have a real election. In the meantime, perhaps we can stop bitching about fairness like a bunch of spoiled yalies and Mizzou students…

Then bring on your invisible Ms. Rubio. Whomever that is. Last Rubio I knew has no business asking for support from the right.

Eww… I don’t like my pizza with olives.  I know, I’ll cut out my tongue.

Clever, Ball.  The logic of Trump-support is astounding.  Rubio has no business asking for support from the Right; let’s rally behind the guy who has no business asking for support from anyone.

I hope that I’m wrong, but I expect that Trump will show up for the debate after all.  He’s clearly a very skilled entertainer, and he knows how to keep people interested in him.  I think saying he won’t show up, but showing up anyway maximizes the amount of attention he gets.

I could be wrong.  I certainly don’t know this stuff as well as Trump does.

Formally. It’s been in the works and already decided. Also, Reagan did not attend a debate in 1980. There’s no requirement to attend these events. Sad that you didn’t know about the RNC reaction to the CNBC debacle.

So Herbert, you knew this was in the news for two weeks and the decision already made yet you report the formalization here and imply its cover for something that happened yesterday?

Ok here’s the deal,  I knew about the RNC’s problems with the msnbc debate  prior to reading/posting that article.  I saw the article retweeted today, I read it and saw it said that the RNC exclusion of was finalized.  Yes I assumed that the news article was today and not a week ago (i.e..  did not notice it had the 19th on it).  I don’t think it really is important to my initial post whether it was finalized today, yesterday or last week,  the Donald can use it as a rationale for taking similar action against Fox.   Even if you disagree, the condescending snarkiness of this comment was totally unwarranted.

I really don’t think Trump is afraid of Megyn Kelly. I think he is deathly afraid of that nuclear triad question surfacing again and he hasn’t had time to understand what it’s all about.
