Trump Will “Definitely Not” Participate in Fox News Debate

1439153463_10016521+TV+Kelly+TrumpThe Donald blinks:

Donald Trump will not attend the next Republican debate, the presidential candidate’s campaign manager said just minutes after Trump said he “probably” won’t show up.

“I’m going to be making a decision with Fox, but I probably won’t bother doing the debate,” Trump said at a press conference in Iowa Tuesday night. “I’m going to do something else in Iowa. We’ll have something where we raise money for the veterans and the Wounded Warriors, we’ll do something simultaneously with the debate, but most likely I’m not going to do the debate. I didn’t like the fact that they sent out press releases toying, talking about Putin, and playing games. I don’t know what games Roger Ailes is playing, what’s wrong over there? Something’s wrong.”

Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, later told the Washington Post that he will “definitely not” participate in the debate.

After Trump’s threats of a boycott unless Megyn Kelly was banned from the debates, Fox News released a strong statement in her defense:

We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president. A nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings.

On the Mark Levin show, Ted Cruz just invited Trump to a one-on-one debate for 90 minutes, no moderator. I assume Donald ducks that one as well.

    Someone is blinking.

Over an hour after the announcement and there is no mention at foxnews.com.

At some point showbiz calculation has to give way to reporting the news, right?

of course… and he will say he would be glad to go on levin’s show but it isn’t fair to the other contestants.  Cruz looks desperate with this move.

You know what would actually be worth seeing? Cruz vs. Rubio for 90 minutes, moderator or no.

Hopefully he doesn’t have to move to phase II, where you incinerate the target area with napalm.  It’s the only way to be sure.

Now I’m hearing speculation that this is a PR stunt to win the news cycle the next two days and that last minute he will show up and the news of the debate will be Trump showing up, not what was actually said. If true, that is pretty damn smart.

Only among the right wing chattering classes. The left sees him as a masterful showman running circles around inferior showmen.

I like this move strategically for both guys. Although it is a risk for Cruz.

Put Nordlinger in between them for a Firing Line style chat on YouTube.

The left see him as he is: a clown who escaped from the circus and ditched the squeaky nose somewhere.

For once, I can’t find fault with their analysis.

I’m thrilled Fox News is ridiculing the Donald’s thin skin.  I also hope they will instruct their moderators to completely ignore him at the debate.  No mention of his no show, no questions about his decision to other candidates, and no mention of his name at all. Pretend that he is not even involved in this election.

This was my first thought. I’ll believe he isn’t there when I see the debate starts and he isn’t there.

Fox won’t publicly back down an inch, but they’ll stroke his ego a little in some way or other. He’ll give in out of sheer generosity because he doesn’t want to hurt their ratings.

I hope this is what it is, show goes on without Trump. If this were a reality show, where Fox is going for ratings, they may bend, but this isn’t. It is a debate for President. There are other candidates to question that want the job. I wouldn’t let him in if I were Fox. I’d make him keep his word.

Rush Limbaugh said he didn’t understand why the left vilified him so, because he had no power. Neither does Trump. He has no power to tell a private company he has no vested intrest in what to do.  His knee jerk reaction is to sue, which is the only power he has.

Imagine what Trump would do if he could abuse legal power to punish those who disagree with him, let alone those who make life a couple minute frustration and/or embarrassment.

I think people are mistaken if they think Trump is doing this for the voter’s benefit, that is, he is protesting on some lofty principle.

I’ll dissent here. I don’t think that there’s a chance in the world that Ailes will let Trump anywhere near the stage. This is a yuuuge PR victory for Fox News.

Go away, Donald. Far away. And don’t forget to write.

    … please forget to write.

I sincerely hope that the other candidates all agree to not mention his name even once.  Finally, we could have the debate that we should have been having all along.  Let us pretend that Trump doesn’t exist.

Agreed.  The left laughs about Trump because they’re witnessing the implosion of conservatives, which is what they have been pushing for 8 years, and they relish it.  There is nobody on the left who is scared of Trump.  He is their powerball.
