PC Insanity Run Amok, Amok, Amok

shutterstock_190412831First, kudos to you if you caught the reference to one of the great Halloween movies. Second, let’s talk about the latest installment of PC insanity now happening at Wisconsin high schools across the state.

In what many are panning as ludicrous, the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) has come out with a list of words/chants/actions that they have decided are both offensive and disrespectful to other students, players, and officials during athletic events.

Here are just a few of my favorites … but will give you the link so you can chose your own top five.

  1. Singing the song “Na-Na-Na-Na/Na-Na-Na-Na/Hey-hey/Goodbye.”
  2. “Booing of any kind” (keep in mind, this is at sporting events).
  3. “Push it, push it, push it” (someone better notify Salt-N-Pepa).
  4. Waving arms or making movements or sudden noises in an attempt to distract an opponent” (Yes, you read that correctly; The Wave = Bad).
  5. Chanting “U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A.”

One article asks what exactly was the goal here from the WIAA and was it to ruin competitiveness in sports? Included in the article is that a three-sport high school athlete was suspended from five games after tweeting her thoughts on the rules emailed to students in December.

I was curious how the guidelines could be applied to playing songs like “We Will Rock You” or “We Are the Champions,” but the WIAA did not respond to a request for comment.

Son_of_the_South: I highly doubt that that’s the goal. The goal is probably to cause less drunken fights or something of that ilk.

My feeling is that athletics are one of the areas where the social warriors have the hardest time wreaking havoc.  And the fan base helps keep them strong.  So, if you drive off the fans, there is more opportunity to do mischief.

I imagine social justice warriors hate sports more than anything else because the rules don’t care about your sense of oppression.

The phrase “run amok” is a reference to a sudden onset of psychosis observed in Indonesian culture.

This whole thread is a microaggression!

    Isn’t “Amok” Aramean for “Forest”?

The document was signed by a “Todd C. Clark.”  I propose the following email to him:

    Dear Mr. Clark,

Some moron has evidently forged your name to a document entitled: “Sportsmanship Reference Guide” allegedly issued by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association.”  I assume your name was forged, because no rational person could possibly endorse a statement the chant “U-S-A” as being either “an acronym of derogatory language” or in any way disrespectful to another Wisconsin School team (by definition, also being from the USA).  I stand ready to make an appropriate legal referral to a defamation lawyer, because it is probably libelous to falsely attribute to you the above statement.

In the unlikely event your name was not forged and you actually endorsed that statement, please feel free to contact the undersigned and I will be pleased to find you an appropriate mental health professional to assist you in your community.

Or there’s my sister’s favorite. Normally she’s a sweet, center-left but socially conservative, Catholic girl, but put her in front of a football game and her shout of choice is a simple, “KILL ‘IIIIIIIIIIIIIIM!”

I did once hear a woman yell, “Tell him a secret, Craig!” when said Craig had tackled an opposing player during a high school football game. I don’t know what it was supposed to mean, but maybe that’s the sort of non-aggressive enthusiasm the WIAA is going for? ;)

I have at several times referred to Stout as a glorified Tech School. It’s not an insult.

    Ug! You’re Ugly! U-G-L-Y Ugly!

I feel saddened that such genuine and authentic expressions of feelings are no longer allowed.

Yep, We Did Too! I’m pretty sure they won’t allow this one! lol

Hoyacon:Not only is the “USA” chant on the list, but here’s the context:

“U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A” or any acronym of derogatory language or innuendo”

Soooo “U-S-A” takes it’s place among acronyms of “derogatory language.” This makes it pretty clear where this group is coming from. Expressions of patriotism? Can’t have that.

I could be talked into an embargo on the Bananarama version of “Na, Na, Na, Na” but the original by Steam stays.

    Unbelievable huh?

Should those harpies be successful, I’ll say the following to the NFL:

Yeah and don’t forget another Rushism…that Football as we know it will not survive all the chickification and weakening of the game. Makes me sad and furious!

The Wave is not an attempt to distract an opponent, The Wave is an attempt to distract the crowd from an otherwise boring game.

I’d add it’s also a whole lotta fun at games. These people clearly never even went to a sporting event or played.

It’s Wisconsin, so I’m sure there are some lol. To be completely serious, though, I’m from Memphis. We don’t get drunken fights outside our games (well, sometimes). We get shootings.
