Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
Is There a Recovery Group for Ricochet?
I’m serious. I’ve never been active on a blog before, and I think I’m in deep trouble. Some people seem to spend all their waking hours here. Some people are so bright that their wisdom and intelligence are overwhelming. Me, I just say what I think, trying to balance head and heart. But I think I’m spending too much time here. Yet there are so many important topics and intelligent (although sometimes somewhat snarky) comments, that I don’t want to miss what is clearly valuable information.
I’m trying to set up rules for myself (limiting myself to certain people, topics, reviewing a limited number of comments. limiting my own comments). And then of course I make my own posts — how foolish is that?! Maybe I need a super speed reading and super speed writing workshop. Maybe Ricochettis should offer one? Is there a cure? Should there be a cure? Is it possible to have a life outside of Ricochet?
I have to stop here … need to check for comments on my latest post and see how people are responding to Tom Meyer…
Editor’s note: There is no recovery group, but Ricochet is one of the few healthy addictions you can have. Join the conversation here.

Well, has it interfered with any of those other things?
Look, not for nothing, but you seem like a person who has a very solid grasp of personal time management. So you should block out some time specifically for Ricochet. You shouldn’t need more than seven or eight hours per day.
I just lightened Yer load for Ya; and Yer welcome.
Now, You can introduce Yer Husband to the site and Y’all can Ricochet together.
And after dealing with the real world all day, Ricochet is the Recovery Group.
If you only write one post every month or two, you rarely have to check for comments.
Bless your heart! I feel lighter already!!
My husband will holler – are you reading that Clara Binski site again? Shut it off and come watch a movie! Not only is it great reading, but its like a big noisy family with lots of cousins – you have to take a break, then you miss them and have to know what’s going on!
I am self employed so I am with you – it’s hard. I try to take Monday off so I stay on too long that day – I also start and end my days scanning favorite news sites – just the headlines – the world is changing so fast, so only read what’s important.
I have a daily to do list, paying work, everyday chores, etc. then when I am a good girl and have done all my work, I get a cookie. Ricochet is the cookie…..
P.S. Over and out….
I am so with you. I just have to find the balance! Love you described your relationship to Ricochet–it clearly is not to write and read–it’s a family!
I’m hoping the 2016 National Review post-election cruise will be out of Florida, so you may have two Meetups to plan . . .
A cruise again? Bah. I’ve already got your 2016 vacation planned for you, Stad. You’re a science fiction author, for crying out loud. You should be joining us for the WorldCon in Kansas City! Do you think they’re going to have burnt ends on that ship?
I don’t even have a job and I can’t keep up around here. I have seriously been wondering how some of the more brilliant and prolific posters do it!
Maybe next year, when my youngest has a driver’s license. A car for her, an upgraded Ricochet membership for me!
Wasting time on the internet is the new normal. Embrace it. Enjoy it!
Me, I can quit any time I want. Just one more thread to read… Or maybe two.
You can get in line right behind me, Dan.
“I just say what I think, trying to balance head and heart.”
That should be the Ricochet mantra, Susan.
Thank you, Michael. I’m not always successful, but I do my best!
Maybe you should stop over-analyzing and just enjoy. :)
I take some days off.
There are people I will invariably read if I see their names at the beginning of a post. They make me think.
Having been here for a while, there are people I don’t read if I see their names at the beginning of a post.
I do respond whenever I want to. Some are well received and some are promptly ignored.
I don’t see everything but it is okay.
Your only hope is to spread the contagion to at least 3 other people. You can do this by gifting a membership, nagging a fellow conservative, or shamelessly cross posting stuff to your facebook feed.
Mwahahahahaa! Welcome to the Hotel California.
/I can’t believe they put this on the Main Feed! Do the suits really want people to know about the RicoCrack before they have them hooked???!
Oh my gosh, have we met??!! :)
Is that Addams Family music I hear in the background . . .?
Keep in mind, a life outside of Ricochet makes your comments more interesting.
Still looking for Clara Binski.
-just email melissa@ricochetmeetup.com for advice and encouragement :) Meeting fellow Ricochetti is the best!
Clara Binski here, jumping in to remind everyone to use Ricochet responsibly.
If you follow these guidelines, you should be fine.
I suppose, but why would anyone want to?
Quitting Richochet is fairly easy, actually. I’ve quit at least 17 times in the last six months alone!
Susan, I think you may be looking at the problem wrong.
Instead of trying to recover from your addiction, might I suggest embracing it and rationalizing it instead? Worked for me…
One tip: try not to begin each conversation with a loved one thusly: “Someone put up a post at Ricochet…”
Unless you enter the PIT. Stupid competitions and ruining the night and friendships is pretty much the reason for the PIT’s existence.
/JK — sort of.
I think it may be hopeless. I’ve already violated every guideline multiple times!!!!
Only 17??!!!
