Breaking: Explosion, Shootings Reported in Paris

From the BBC:

An attack on a bar in the French capital, Paris, has caused several casualties, French media report.

At least one man opened fire with an automatic gun at the Cambodge restaurant in the 11th district.

Liberation newspaper says four people have been killed. It also reports shootings elsewhere. There is no official confirmation.

An explosion is also reported to have targeted a bar near Stade de France, where France were hosting Germany.

A BBC journalist at the scene says he can see 10 people on the road either dead or seriously injured.
He says police have now arrived.

James Jones:We should take anything CNN says with a grain of salt. Maybe several. I remember on 9/11 they reported many things during that dark day, many of them untrue.

Some reports being carried on France 24 at the moment are claiming that the hostages are being executed so I dearly hope you are correct.

Paul Dougherty: It’s OK, POTUS just delivered statement of solidarity. “We share in France the principals of Life, Liberty and the …er…. pursuit of happiness. Also…er…. Liberte, Fraternite, …er.. Egalite.” Yep, that’s our guy. Not kidding.

    Seriously?

How can even Democrats not be embarrassed by this clown.

    To some ‘students’:

My God, if I hear about ‘safe spaces’ again, I will not react well. This is the real world, you spoiled progressive infants. These are real revolutionaries who want to overturn the western ideals. Ask them what they thought about Fifty Shades of Gray.

    To Ricochetti:

Can we actually control our border and our citizenship now, please? Can we get serious about killing these guys, please?

So much for ‘gun free zones’. The only thing keeping this out of America may be concealed carry. It sure is not the TSA.

The people of France deserve better protection from barbarians. I weep for the dead and the terror of the families.

And Obama , for whom I have little admiration , was mercifully short and for once, it was not about him.  I will give him that.

There are reports that there were still shots being fired at Bataclan up until five explosions just a few minutes ago. Hollande has announced the police are going in.

EThompson: Perhaps France needs to start funding a serious military budget and stop relying on the rest of the world to fight her battles. This has been going on for far too long (since WWII) and the rest of the West is dead broke from supporting the parasitic.

As a fraction of GDP spent on defence, France ranks ninth in the world with 1.8% of GDP. The U.S. ranks fifth, with 3% of GDP. In terms of absolute spending, the U.S. is first with US$ 581 billion and France is sixth with US$ 53.1 billion.

I don’t have a heck of a lot of respect for percentages, only pure numbers. France has plenty of income to spend, but look at where she chooses to spend it: Social spending is falling in some countries …

Maybe, but I don’t think the French screw around here. They have a reputation for military cowardice, but it’s not very well-deserved. (I enjoy a “used French rifle for sale; dropped once, never fired” joke as much as the next guy, but they were pretty heroic in WWI and their loss in WWII wasn’t due to cowardice or a lack of defense spending. Poor planning, sure.)

France has a refreshingly strong sense of its own culture, and I think if they find it under assault they’ll take strong measures. We shall see.

These appear to be the four confirmed locations, the other three sound more akin to rumors so far.

Edit: Paris is now reporting that intelligence had “no inkling” of the seven attacks perpetrated today. That is hardly an indication of a “strong sense of culture” and certainly not one of survival.

This whole situation makes me so morose… it’s like watching Abraham sacrifice Isaac on an alter of political correctness and multi-culturalism. These barbarians murder with glee at the front door while Merkel waves in hundreds of thousands more at the back.

France’s president closed its borders and mobilized its military after attacks killed scores

“…French television and news services quoted the police as saying at least 60 people had been killed and many dozens wounded in at least four apparently coordinated attacks…”

My apologies to the President. He was not as bad as I recalled on my initial hearing of the audio. Not impressive, but I may have been unfair.

Normal law-abiding citizens are paying a high price for politicians and leftists to feel good about themselves.

Good to hear that you and your father are okay, Claire.

Of course many thoughts come to mind about this but I’m not going to provide any commentary about the attack until more is known. I just hope that the police and military in Paris can go about their business and prevent any more bloodshed and death. My heart is heavy.

But we’re leading on climate change.

Not to worry – all France needs is “bomb control.” Just make the bombs illegal. Duh.

Yeah, let’s hope that Climate Change Summit isn’t cancelled – ‘it’s the greatest danger we face’.

Hollande response was expectedly forceful. Retaliate without remorse. Im expecting a more serious approach at killing ISIS instead of tip toeing around to not offend turkey or russia or whomever

Latest number I saw on Fox News was 150+ dead. No word on how many injured, and in the 30 minute span I was watching the number had jumped up from 118.

When my mom had heart surgery, the nurses had her up and walking around the next day. I was shocked. But her recovery went very well. I wish your dad a good recovery too.

If Charlie Hebdo taught them nothing, then neither will this. Do you think they’ll stop taking in “refugees”, especially the military-age kind that never seem to have wives or children in tow? Platitudes will be mouthed, some symbolic military action will happen here and there, and then… soon… Europe will be back to committing suicide as if it never happened. Can’t get enough of that third world cultural enrichment.
