Flyover 43 – Senik and the Last Hurrah

Troy Senik joins us for an extended “goodbye” podcast (quotes explained in the podcast), including information about where he’s going and what he’s leaving behind; somewhere in all of that, we can’t help but discuss politics. Also, a few stories – straight from the horse’s mouth – that you may not have really heard yet.

Intro includes music from Ronald Jenkees. Closing music this week is Josh Ritter. I mentioned a few things I’d link to… and of course I didn’t write any of it down. Links forthcoming.

    MarciN, I am Terry.

I came on as the know nothing everyman who exudes conservatism through pure logic and common sense instead of immersion. I’ve stayed on with my combination of looks and rapist wit. Behold the beard.

    Hope this clears things up.

Rapier,  Terry. Oh God, but the word you’re looking for is rapier.

I’m generally not a fan of editing member’s comments, but I think that this one presents a very strong case.

I do recognize the irony of saying that in the case of self-accusation of rape the objects’ consent shouldn’t be decisive, but I’m sure Terry wants it really.

The line separating mountain man face fungus from that of the jihadist/rapist is very fine.

Of course, Troy flirts with that line himself.

Deft; Troy now owes Terry that 20 spot we discussed for distracting everyone away from the Giraffe.

Thanks, guys. I enjoyed this very much.

I’m glad I got to meet Troy at the Charlotte meetup and I’m glad he’ll still be on Law Talk.

I hope you got more than 12 listeners.

I’ve unfortunately been there many times.  My suspicion (because Terry is on the rig right now) is that he was commenting on his phone.  Droid phones have what’s called “swype” text, where you run your fingers over a keyboard and it guesses the word.  I’ve had to immediately follow up many text messages where it thought I wanted a different word…  It’s still faster than typing on an iPhone, but the choices the phone makes are often rather comical.

well, not in the last 20 years at any rate…

So your explanation is far less complex than mine, but that stupid swype-to-text is still responsible for about 60% of my own typos. Projection, perhaps?

Thank you all for a great podcast.

I’d like to look up the piece by the law faculty member at Washington State describing Bush-era versus Obama-era Executive Orders and Acts of Congress in quantitative and substantive terms.  But of course I can’t remember the author’s name.  What is her name?

Those are actually two distinct topics:

The law review article I quoted was about the amount of new federal laws that come from rulemaking rather than via statute. That’s here.

Re: the executive orders, I can’t find the piece I read that specifically focused on the Bush v. Obama comparison, but here’s a good exposition of why the Obama claims of executive reticence are extremely misleading.

    Thank you, most sincerely.

Best of luck in your new endeavors.

I hope you can keep up your acquaintance with the electrician who worked on your house and who is obviously a good person to know.  I am glad to know of him, by report, as a fellow American, and am grateful for the arm’s-length introduction.
