Flyover 43 – Senik and the Last Hurrah
Troy Senik joins us for an extended “goodbye” podcast (quotes explained in the podcast), including information about where he’s going and what he’s leaving behind; somewhere in all of that, we can’t help but discuss politics. Also, a few stories – straight from the horse’s mouth – that you may not have really heard yet.
Intro includes music from Ronald Jenkees. Closing music this week is Josh Ritter. I mentioned a few things I’d link to… and of course I didn’t write any of it down. Links forthcoming.

Sweet, something to do until it’s time to go to dinner.
Well… and if it’s not done before dinner, you’ll be skipping dinner. Just be sure your priorities are right, KP.
Taking the oldest out tonight because she’s the only one home, so it’s kind of mandatory.
How did you not name this “A Euphemism for Stupid People”?
Actually, I had a brain freeze. Was going to ask Troy if I could borrow his wit for the title…
“Senik and the low information voter”
This was very good. Thank you for putting this together.
Yes, Troy, we really want to hear you as other than an impartial arbiter.
Ryan, my daughter is cheering the ending. Perfect!
Y’all know the Senik drinking game, right? Every time he says “dynamic”…
Hah, well, now I’m going to have to look for that.
Great podcast. Thanks.
What’s the electronic song at the beginning?
Ronald Jenkees. “Stay crunchy”
Cool stuff. I’m listening to “Guitar Sound” now. I used to like to make stuff up and toy around with a long echo on my guitar like that. But I made the delay long enough that every note I played would harmonize with the echo of the last one. Those were some of my friends’ favorite riffs.
Wow.
You know, when you start getting the celebrity at the top of the news cycle, you really have to reconsider whether this is the podcast giving voice to the ordinary man.
What, I can’t listen to Andrew Klavan now?! It keeps sending me to membership tiers, so I guess it’s not for the hoi polloi.
I’ll have to settle for Ryan, Terry and a lame-duck editor. I hope this isn’t one of those you-get-what-you-pay-for deals.
Oh, you’ll pay for it!
I really enjoyed it. The ending was lots of fun. :)
I don’t listen to podcasts much because I’m not in a car too often, and when I am at my desk, I am working. Listening to a podcast while I work would be like trying to add up a column numbers with someone muttering other numbers in your ear. :)
So this was the first Flyover podcast I have ever listened to.
It was great, but I want to know, Who is Terry?
:)
Thank you.
See, Troy’s version perfectly aligns with the rest of ours. And you thought we embellished it…
haha – I’ll have to tell him to come explain himself!
I was so happy, I was actually rubbing my hands together. “Now at last I’ll get the lowdown on the giraffe business.” This, I thought, will be worth 10 Reagan memberships. Ryan and Terry are finally paying me back for sitting dutifully through Flyover after Flyover after Flyover. It’s been a long, tough slog but now it will all be worth it.
Ha.
Wait – shouldn’t this be called Quitter Country?
Can’t believe I hadn’t added this to my iPhone subscriptions. Done.
Thanks FG!
Senik for Speaker, Boehner for Editor.
Ricochet will take the bullet by Ricochet….
I have been endlessly impressed with Troy since I joined Ricochet. It is a little intimidating finding a young man so talented and intelligent. He may have felt that being in the White House at 24 was the peak of his career, but I think he is headed for much bigger and better things. So long as he maintains his dignity and integrity, it seems to me that sky is the limit for him. Truly a brilliant young man. I was glad to hear him say that would continue his hosting of the various podcasts. They wouldn’t be the same without him, despite the brilliance of his interviewees. His questions to them open up the doors to their wisdom. Next to Peter Robinson, he is my favorite interviewer.
Let me add that despite your attitude towards cyclists ( ;-) ) I have come to really enjoy this podcast. Living in hills east of Tacoma, I can relate to flyover country since our representative is a Republican, but we are surrounded by the Soviet of Puget Sound.
They are absolute rotters, SL!
Black Rednecks and White Liberals is really, really good.
Thanks for this podcast.
I am from the hills of West Virginia and it was like reading a textbook of my own experiences.
Rotters! Trust you to come up with the precise technical term. Thank you.
It was a dirty, stinking, rotten trick to play on us. I bent my poor aching, ailing ear to listen to them, only to have loud nasty music drown it out! Rotters I say!
Well, we were running short on time, and Troy will just keep going on and on and on if you don’t eventually cut him off…
Any excuse is better than none.
