Sam, Bugs, Daffy: Where Do You Fit In?
Recently, an intrepid Rico coined a phrase: “Yosemite Sam Conservative”. To illustrate:
As you see, Sam’s got the guns going. He listens to Mark Levin and The Blaze. Find him in Provo, Utah. Sam owns a three year supply of canned food and 144,000 rounds, just in case. Candidates: Cruz, Perry, Bachmann, Palin.
Sam’s a cantankerous partner to his well-off establishment suburban cousins, “Foghorn Leghorn Conservatives”:
Found: at the country club outside Atlanta, Tampa, and the Research Triangle. Enjoys Haley Barbour, Karl Rove, Mitch McConnell.
Their wary libertarian allies on the west coast are “Bugs Bunny Conservatives”:
They listen to Dennis Miller, read Reason and Camille Paglia, and will support Rand Paul—most of them.
Their east coast, big city, reform-minded moderate cousins are “Top Cat Conservatives.” Read: City Journal, National Review.
The only “Daffy Duck Conservative” is 10 Cents.

Now, Fawlty, you know better than anyone that we’re not supposed to mention the war…of 1812.
I am aggrieved. I am officially a victim. Why are Conservatives so mean?

Head* of the DDC
* I am also The Hand of the Daffy Duck Conservatives.
It’s like this, Dime: “Why Mommy is a Democrat” starred meek, well-intentioned little creatures. Quite harmless, really, though I don’t like indoctrinating children, not even my own. If they’re smart, they’ll figure it all out.
But the book explains why we’re all so mean.
I doubt publishers will take my “Why Daddy is a Republican”, featuring a jolly, Tony Stark-esque Fat Cat with a pinstriped suit. “Hey kids, remember when those damn dogs tried to take over? Who saved you? Those damn little mice, or us?”
Paul Ryan to the rescue!
Always thought of myself as a Donald Duck conservative. Just trying to live my life in peace, but people keep pushing me around, making demands on me…
Too many Republican strategists like to think they are smart, laid back thinkers like Sam the Sheepdog, but end up like Ralph the wolf.
When, oh when, will we learn? We have to make the point that the growth delivered by our economic policies, which, sure, will first benefit Mr. Spacely of Spacely Sprockets and Mr. Cogswell of Cogswell Cogs, will eventually trickle down to George, Jane, Judy, Elroy and even Astro.
Let’s get our heads wrapped around this, people. 2016 doesn’t win itself, you know.
It should be clear that this is where I stand.
And come to think of it, I did vote for Fred Thompson.
Got here late (what else is new) – but I think we’ve got Bugs all wrong. Not libertarian in the least. More Reaganite. Bugs always came out on top because he knew his opponents and how to use that info to his advantage.
Tho for the establishment Republicans (DC, mostly), Aaron Miller hits the nail, er, fuse on the head. They keep shopping at Acme for their solutions and get the same results every time.
I’m off to watch some Bugs on You Tube. Gotta’ have me a Bugs fix every so often.
I don’t know which character I would be. I am a ..
War mongering chicken hawk
Economic libertarian
Immigration Squish
Right to lifer
Dedicated gun rights supporter
Optimist
This is why Democrats are so touchy feely.
Hey, Dime, please don’t disrespect Mr. Magoo like that; I learned a lot of classic literature watching that cartoon. Thank you…
He is also based on a real-life Germanic Philologist…..
A true capitalist unlike Gary McFeign knows how important a dime is.

Which one?
F.P. Magoun.
Somehow, I don’t quite associate Mr. Magoo with a WWI flying ace.
And I see that it is mentioned in the Wikipedia article as no evidence.
I took it on the word of older faculty at IU and U of I (Johnson, Wailes, Fulk, et al). It may however be the Germanic Philologist equivalent of an urban legend.
fantastic.
Somewhere between Bugs and Top Cat, though the first two look fun.
Like probably many, I thought the post was going to be asking who’s your favorite as a cartoon character. Daffy for me.
There is room in the DDC for you.
kylez, I also fall somewhere between Bugs and Top Cat.
Notice Top Cat’s ease with discussing issues of urban policing. He sits on a trash can, within reach of a telephone pole, symbolizing his interest in infrastructure renewal. In the background is a dreary development project of the Fifties, all but begging to be replaced by private initiative. But unlike too many GOP scolds, TC is one cool cat, and I like the way he projects a Rolls Royce image (literally) from the first moments of the show.
TC= Ten Cents
I don’t know if you’re being facetious.
1. After World War I, Democrats and Republicans and even John Maynard Keynes, agreed that tax rates were too high. Because of the high rates of taxation, rich people tended to put their money into tax shelters, rather than investing in business ventures that employ people. This was not a politically divisive issue at the time.
2. No politician nor economist ever advocated anything called the “trickle-down theory.” In fact, when tax rates are reduced, money is taken out of tax shelters and invested in business ventures that hire workers. The money goes directly to those workers, in hopes that the business will succeed and money will Trickle Up to the investors. FDR coined the phrase “trickle-down” as an epithet for his opponents.
3. The tax debate eventually became a political issue, with Democrats (but not JFK) advocating higher tax rates and Republicans advocating lower tax rates. At that point, Democrats started accusing Republicans of wanting to decrease tax rates because they only care about the rich. This is pure demagoguery; both parties previously admitted that when tax rates are too high, it diminishes revenues to the treasury and hurts the common working man who needs a job.

Since the review came in at exactly 200 words, I decided not to mess with it.
Aww. Whydja hafta go outside Looney Tunes? A world with Looney Tunes needs no other (except, maybe, Rocky and Bullwinkle). And, of all places to go, Hanna-Barbera? Really? They’re [CoC]. Why did you even have to remind me they existed?

Yep.
