Never Tempt the Gods of Stupid

A couple of prescient Ricochetti  wags joked that the replacement bridge in Baltimore would be the “George Floyd Memorial Bridge.”  (My sons opined the replacement honored figure  will be Freddie Gray or Elijah Cummings.) If we have learned anything from the Babylon Bee, it is to NEVER joke about the next woke stupid idea because it might cause it to actually happen.

Right on cue, within 24 hours the Washington Post has discovered that former slave-holding District of Columbia lawyer Francis Scott Key is now officially problematic:

Why not Brooks Robinson or Johnny Unitas?  Or maybe “Old Line” after one of the finest and most distinguished regiments in George Washington’s army? Or George Armistead who commanded Fort McHenry during the famous battle? There are so many good choices that will need to be rejected but I have great confidence that our leaders are up to the task of excluding them all in favor of some trite deeply stupid woke gesture.  Maybe TBGF Bridge after the The Black Guerrilla Family to honor a leading local chapter of that gang?

The only new name I would accept would be the Cal Ripken Jr. Bridge. At least it would be named for someone famous for his staying power.

Could always name it after his son, Philip Barton Key, or after the man who shot him, Union general-to-be Daniel Sickles.  The story.

Why build a new bridge at all?   Surely the idea of bridges has a sketchy past of colonization and Western ick.

    Well done.

That’s pretty much how they run Minneapolis transportation.

Interesting. This is a good reminder that skulduggery among the elites is nothing new.

The Mexican consulate made a great big deal out of the fact that all six of them were from Mexico and Central American countries. Letting in all of this uneducated labor is not good for the country.

Apparently it’s not good for the people we let in, either.

    How about Bridget Jones’s Bridge?

Or maybe the Al Sharpton Bridge, which doesn’t actually exist because all the money went… elsewhere.

We should build the replacement out of wokesters and wine Karens.  They are cheaper than steel, and if a ship hits them, nothing of value would be lost.

I understand they were jumping up and down on it and that’s what made it break.

Old Bathos: I have great confidence that our leaders are up to the task of excluding them all in favor of some trite deeply stupid woke gesture.

I’d like to see a campaign to name the bridge after the guy who shot Hitler.  How can the left object to honoring someone that heroic?

Or how about the guy who sold the drugs to George Floyd that made him a martyr?  He doesn’t get NEARLY enough credit.

I stole it from some comments back during the George Floyd stuff in 20202, when they went crazy and started pulling down statues and were looking for new people to honor.

    He’s big.

He fought with the police for 45 minutes.

Lethal level of fentanyl in his system, plus other drugs.

I don’t see why this cop is in jail.

How many dimensions of the justice system are going down the drain towards Democrat policy and political power?  I wasn’t aware of so much of this until all of the commentary on Trump’s situation, where they explain what prosecutors, judges, and attorneys general are supposed to be doing.

Honestly, it seems really bad. The New York bar isn’t going to do a damn thing about the socialist that is their Attorney General. Same thing with the New York DA. Chicago bar. Illinois bar. George Soros prosecutors. Judges. ***The various bars seem like really bad non-accountable government.***  The way that US justice system is handling the Biden family versus the Trump family is patently insane. I want to throw up.

Democrats just want power anyway they can get it.

Chauvin is in jail because the Commies in charge did want the city to burn.
