Well, That Didn’t Last Long…

McDaniel at the 2018 Young Women’s Leadership Summit (WikiMedia Commons)

I think it was only yesterday that I saw that Ronna McDaniel, former Chair of the Republican National Committee got a job as a contributor at NBC News.  I probably wouldn’t have even known she got the job, except that a bunch of the on-air talent was throwing a fit over her hiring.

She lasted less long than Kevin D. Williamson when he was hired by The Atlantic.

One would think that the executives making hiring decisions at these places would know their existing personnel well enough to predict the outrage that comes from hiring a Republican.

Apparently not.

In some sort of weird comparison, Fox News hired DNC chair Donna Brazile as a commentator from 2019 to 2021.

They can’t go around hiring talented people to appear on-air. It would make the rest of them look bad.

Yeah, they want viewpoint diversity, as long as there are no objections from employees who do not want such diversity.

That would have been the perfect opportunity to announce the across-the-board 15% pay cut.

I haven’t looked at anything on NBC since they edited the 911 call to make George Zimmerman sound racist.

Then there’s the story about those Chevrolet and GMC pickups that are overly likely to catch fire.  NBC did a test to show that, goldarnit, those pickups do catch fire when hit from the side!  What they didn’t tell the viewing audience was that they rigged the pickup with incendiary devices so that when fuel spilled from the tank from being crashed into, it would be guaranteed to catch fire.  An old story now, but as a car guy, one that I remember.

I dunno.  If they’re laid off they can go and look for new jobs.  This way they might feel a lot more emotional and psychological pain on the way out.

But who else is hiring?  At least regular types.  It’s like, do people who get laid off by Google just go to work for some other Google?

Not my problem.  But for Democrats, there’s always a soft landing.

This is my experience with my rabid Democrat very smart brother-in-law. He tries to hide it, but he never lets it go there.

Government is force, and it doesn’t work so they have to control the media and as many discussions as they can. Public goods only.

I hear the IRS is hiring new agents.  My hunch that the qualifying exam has more to do with ideology than competence.

In my humble opinion there are many on the commentariat right missing the bigger point here. Look, you can think Ronna McDaniel was wrong in her take on the 2020 election etc (see The Editors yesterday) and that is a fair criticism. That is missing the main point. If MSNBC had decided to hire Charles Cooke, Jim Gherity, Noah Rothman, Matt Continetti et al the exact same blow back would have occurred….that is the main point to be taken here. It has nothing to do with Ronna’s take on the 2020 election..that is a smoke screen….it is about her being a Conservative and a Republican. Oh but I hear you say David French….Jonah Goldberg…Liz Cheney…all useful idiots who as soon as Donald Trump is gone from the stage will be run out in the exact same fashion….by late 2025 David French will be gone from the NYT….I’d bet my house on it. I remember Ronald Regan being called the same things as Donald Trump….and George Bush Sr and Bob Dole and George Bush Jr….and Mitt Romney all down the line. The NYT, The Wapo, MSNBC, CNN, NPR will never ever have someone truly right of center or conservative for any length of time….and if they do, there is a broader political motive behind it. I quit teaching due to my views…once I tried to teach Thomas Sowell and got blow back I knew it was time to leave…this is real….and what we are seeing here with Ms. McDaniel is in the exact same wheel house and has been going on for decades.

Only if Trump loses. Of course, since the same people will be running the elections using the same techniques …

    1.  Surely when F. Chuck Todd starts his conversation with saying that he wants to deal with “the elephant in the room,” he’s guilty–if nothing else–of sizeism, weightism, specieism, and Lord knows what else.  Comparing a person to an elephant?  Really?  Shameful.  And clearly something to do with climate change.

Why has Greta Thunberg not intervened? (On a different note, I live for the day that Senator John Kennedy has Greta Thunberg in his sights.)

    2. Can’t help thinking (this is just me being awkward) that–somehow–the loons at MSNBC have found a way to align with those Republicans who’ve looked at RRM and found her wanting over the years.  They didn’t like her much.  Deservedly so. Now she’s gone.  Is that a Win-Win?  Or what?  I guess we’ll know only when we see if what comes after is better.
    3. And yes, when it comes to the inmates running the asylum.  If only MSNBC were the only offenders in that regard.

Yes, interesting how we’re hearing so many instances in which the staff of “news” organizations (see New York Times and Wall Street Journal and others) are dictating to management what “news” gets reported and how, and the “students” at “universities” are dictating to professors and administration what topics are open for study and what conclusions are required of those studies, and other instances of inmates running the asylums.

He could be gone either way.  If Trump loses, they don’t need him any more.  If Trump wins, he wasn’t effective.
