Papers, Please
I have to renew my Texas driver’s license this year. The last few times I have been unable to renew by mail (as in the somewhat distant past) because of an endorsement for driving oversized fire trucks. That requires me to show up in person.
This time, however, I have to show proof of citizenship. I recently sent off my passport for renewal, so instead of my passport I need a birth certificate. My wife was suitably impressed when I pulled out certificates for both of us from the important documents folder I keep in the gun safe (in a fire resistant bag, in the fire resistant gun safe; nothing is truly fireproof). It looks like my passport will show up before my May drivers license appointment, so the birth certificate goes back in the safe.
But here is the point: a federal judge ruled that there is nothing wrong with illegals voting in local elections (District of Columbia,in this case).
So I need to show ID at the airport, to vote, and prove my citizenship to get a driver’s license, but illegal aliens can fly without ID, obtain driver’s licenses in some states and even vote. All without citizenship. It’s like bizarro planet.

If I didn’t know better, I’d say they’re trying to remove all benefits of citizenship and turn us into slaves with no purpose in life but to support the Government…
This is just so you can fly with your driver’s license. Here’s the scoop on REAL ID. That said, 1.5 of 2.0 big political parties wants to make your citizenship useless.
I understand. And I think REAL ID was a good concept. Except now it doesn’t apply to the very people it was meant to stop.
You imply that you do know better…
Could we just self-identify as illegal aliens and grab the goodies without the hassle of producing ID? IIRC last time I got an updated photo license, I had to show my social security card. It’s not supposed to be used for ID you say? Well, the state has a special agreement with the Feds that allows them to make it a requirement.
The “Not To Be Used For Identification!” thing got removed from Soc Sec cards a long time ago.
I refuse to get a real ID It’s not my problem that California and other states were handing out DLs like Christmas cards.
What will you use if you want to fly anywhere after May of next year?
There’s no doubt in my mind that the slave/serf model is the goal. Maybe not medieval, but certainly with an aristocracy.
Based on what I see I’m not sure I want to fly ever again. But I do know that eliminating flying for the general public is a goal of a real number of influential radical weather control clowns, whether by policy, cost or other deterrence. The EU ain’t puttin’ more taxes on air travel for nothing.
I was thinking this over further this morning. I have been fingerprinted for military service, a handgun carry license, my EMT license and a state teaching license. For Mrs Tex, military service (including a footprint for pilot training), handgun license, license to carry while flying (TSA) and her paramedic license. And FedEx used some biometrics for pilot identification. I can’t remember if it was fingerprints or something else. In fact, for my last EMT license renewal I had to get fingerprinted again. I guess in case my fingerprints changed. I think some of this state stuff must be because someone’s brother in law owns a fingerprinting company. But the feds? Just more .gov collecting and collating your personal information in the giant blob, just waiting for the CCP to come get it.
Good point, though I’m pretty sure I had to show a photo ID when I went to vote for DeSantis in the primary. That doesn’t mean the requirement wasn’t racist, of course.
Sorry . Commented on wrong post.
Sorry, forgot to add the </sarc> tag.
Passport.
Birth certificates are fairly meaningless too. In the old days it was a piece of paper, later microfilm, that was created on the day you were born, signed by someone able to vouch for the birth occurring on that date and time.
Now a birth “certificate” is just a form printed out with the latest information that the government as on file for you.
You can go to court and change your father, your mother, your sex, your date of birth, your location of birth, anything you could possibly want. They won’t show a record of the changes on the birth certificate, it will give the impression that this is what was recorded when you were born.
So, all the hullaballoo about Obama’s birth certificate was kind of silly. A compliant judge (I’m sure in democrat Hawaii there are none so corrupt!) could easily change or create a birth certificate reflecting anything the judge was willing to allow.
I’m not saying Obama isn’t a natural born citizen. His mother was a citizen and no matter where he was born that suffices to make him an American citizen. It wouldn’t be hard, though, to change other details just to avoid further discussions in public.
And it wouldn’t take much for a judge to grant an illegal a birth certificate.
The passport showed up today, so the birth certificate goes back in the safe. I was looking over the license renewal form again. I also have to provide my DD214, in case I stopped being a veteran since my last renewal.
That’s racist! Black people don’t know how to get a passport.
Our FD has never lost a driveway.
I had to go through the same thing as you last May on my renewal. It was because of the Real ID. My passport and license to carry wasn’t good enough. They required a paper utility bill, not a photocopy. Who still get’s bills mailed to them anymore? I found the last remaining paper bill.
Paper bills can’t carry a computer virus.
Hope springs eternally.
I was going to do that, but you did it more elegantly.
A friend applied for food stamps recently and later on she realized she left out significant change to the income she reported to Sonoma county when applying. Since she thought food stamps are income-based, she called her worker to see if her updated info would be allowed in as part of her financial record.
Her worker informed her that the state no longer is able to force the issue of whether a food stamp applicant wishes to make out the record of what their last months of income actually are.
This means that possibly someone somewhere inside Calif made a legal stink about the discriminatory fact that destitute American citizens have had to come up with so much info just to get a food stamp while the new arrivals can saunter into any county in the state, sit down and list only their name and address and number of people in their home, and walk out with a generous amount of foods stamps.
If someone is destitute, it can be hard to prove it. How do you “prove” you aren’t working under the table? That you don’t have a mattress stuffed with cash? Up to just recently, legit citizens got all sorts of run around tactics designed to make them wait 6 to 10 weeks, while anyone illegally here didn’t need to even show ID to be processed and obtain benefits within hours of talking to a worker.
What I don’t get is, how do they know anyone is citizen and no a newly arrived illegal? By haircut? By accent?
By the presence or absence of a MAGA cap.
Maybe it’s like Sean Connery’s line in “The Untouchables.” “Who would claim to be that, who wasn’t?”
A person applying for social services benefits in Calif does get finger printed, although with the great latitude allowed to the new arrivals, who knows if they have to submit to that or not?
Since most Californians over 16 have driver’s licenses, we have all been finger printed, so it would be hard for someone in the system to pose an illegal immigrant, even if the right skin color and speaking some Spanish.
And being fingerprinted has no meaning or value if the fingerprints are not actually checked against existing records etc.
