More “Social Justice Fallacies,” with Thomas Sowell

Thomas Sowell, age 93, is the Rose and Milton Friedman Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution. With his usual fierceness and feistiness intact, Dr. Sowell returns to Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson for a second round of discussion on his latest book (he’s published over 40 titles over his career), Social Justice Fallacies. In this installment, Dr. Sowell discusses in great detail the recent Supreme Court decision on affirmative action, Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard, and his decades-long friendship with Justice Clarence Thomas. Dr. Sowell also reacts to some YouTube videos of young people reacting to him.

I wonder if a small enterprising college might find success with a program in Sowell Studies.

Title it “Soul Studies”, and not only will it get students, but also boatloads of federal dollars.

Peter, I do wish that you would stop using the Orwellian language of the other side.

Never use “affirmative action,” unless preceded by “so-called.”  Call it what it is.  Race preferences, or even Black Privilege.

Peter Robinson is a truly gifted interviewer.  His self-effacing, non-confrontational, deferential manner (a) conceals how thoroughly he has prepared and (b) draws out the very best in the interviewees.  He also makes it comfortable to confront highly controversial issues..  Instead of saying something like [this particular liberal position] is asinine, don’t you agree?” he is unflinchingly fair to those he is setting up to be smacked down by the interviewee.

Uncommon Knowledge is not only a repository of brilliant commentary by unique minds but a master class in the art of the interview.

These kinds of reactions are precisely why there is such an effort to make Sowell invisible.
