‘There’s a Killer on the Road’

“There’s a killer on the road
His brain is squirmin’ like a toad”
— The Doors

The assault on Paul Pelosi is bringing out all the armchair detectives and grifters that are trying to use the attack to satisfy and reinforce their own political narratives. The attacker alone and no one else is responsible for his behavior.

As a former police officer, I found that the majority of mentally ill individuals I dealt with were receiving auditory messages rather than hallucinations. Drug users might be an exception depending upon the drug they were ingesting. Not all auditory input is disembodied voices. The internet provides any number of theories that can reinforce the delusions of the mentally ill.

Mentally ill individuals live in a world that is structured and has its own set rules. Their perceptions are delusional, but according to them, everyone else is delusional, not them. Some will never act out, others will. Some are careful planners, some are not. Some will be attracted to political beliefs; some will be attracted to celebrities. Some will kill and some will not.

I have met individuals that were on the verge of acting on their delusions, and I arrested one that had stabbed his roommate to death. He told me his roommate was a KGB agent and the CIA ordered him to kill his roommate.

I’m not going to delve into the depths of all those who seek some advantage into the assault of Paul Pelosi. I see the world as it is, not as I would like it to be.

I think “armchair detectives” are asking some legitimate questions.

How did a man half his age clad in underwear get into Paul Pelosi’s bedroom… while his wife was out of town … without setting off any alarms?

Why did Paul Pelosi tell the police his assailant was “a friend?”

Why is the broken glass spraying outward from the patio door?

I’ll wait for the DA’s Grand Jury report that includes evidence gathered from the police investigation.

I think that it is amazing that a number of people at Ricochet have jumped to the conclusion that Paul Pelosi was injured by a male prostitute, without citing any authority for their assertions.

I agree with @garyrobbins about, at the most, once a year and this is one of those times. To my knowledge, and in saying that I wish to make it clear that I have not a thorough research into every possible source of information about this incident, there is not a scintilla of evidence that Pelosi had invited a male prostitute into his home for the usual purposes. I agree with @dougwatt in the OP that there are many questions which cause a rather distinct aroma to be given off by this entire affair, and I appreciate his list in #19 as it is well reasoned listing of questions I am sure many of us have. In expressing this view of things, I am driven by many years (more than I should admit publicly) of practicing law as a Trial Lawyer and seeing, time after time, facts develop, both helpful and harmful to our clients, which no one could have dreamed would have been the case at the beginning of the trial. I am also driven by the infamous, sleazy, disgusting Duke Lacrosse case, in which it seemed the entire world, media, academia, law enforcement, etc., were determined to destroy the lives of young men who were eventually proven to be totally innocent of all the scurrilous charges leveled against them. And, as a lawyer, I am proud to note that the main reason that happened was through the tireless efforts of a team of extremely able and dedicated lawyers who never gave up on these young men. In saying all this, I note I share the cynicism of all as to whether we will ever get the real story out of the Police, or anyone else for that matter, and politicians like Queen D’Alesandro  herself have definitely brought that lack of trust upon themselves. Finally, I urge all to wait until all facts are gathered and, hoping for the honesty and forthrightness of law enforcement, shared with the public, for reasons set forth by @markcamp in #10, as I could not possibly put it better.

    God Bless America!

Will I have to pass a criminal check?  Will I have to store my hammers in a locked cabinet?  Will I have to remove the handle between uses?  Will all electric and pneumatic nailers be outlawed?

Will I be able to have more than 4 nails at a time?

Will the banking institutions add a code for hammer purchases?

Based on this pull from a Politico article:

David DePape forced his way into the home through a back entrance, Scott said. Officers arrived at the house, knocked on the front door and were let inside by an unknown person. They discovered DePape and Pelosi struggling for a hammer, and after they instructed them to drop the weapon, Scott said, DePape took the hammer and “violently attacked” Pelosi.

Perhaps we should add, “Who was this third person who let the police in?” to Doug’s list in #19. As well as, “Why was this person not identified by the SFPD (or his/her identity not released)?”

Maybe as we learn more from the investigation/trial, things will be cleared up. Or not: We still don’t know diddley squat about the Las Vegas shooter’s motives, etc., for example. But right now this has, as Jim notes, a rather distinct aroma.

    Some questions I have:

How did someone who lives in the East Bay make the trip to the Pelosi home in his underwear?

Taking an Uber or public transport in your underwear is going to attract some attention.

Are the investigators looking for his vehicle in the Pelosi neighborhood?

Did they find his clothing in the Pelosi household?

Did they find his clothing on the patio outside the door he entered?

Did the hammer belong to him, or do the Pelosi’s leave a hammer laying around in plain view?

Did Paul Pelosi confront the attacker with a hammer that they own?

If he was an invited guest, why smash a glass door to get into the house?

Does Paul Pelosi have the attackers phone number in his list of contacts?

Lots of question that I cannot answer, nor can the media.

One question you alluded to is was the smashed door smashed inward or outward?  It may have happened during a fight inside.

I think “armchair detectives” are asking some legitimate questions.

How did a man half his age clad in underwear get into Paul Pelosi’s bedroom… while his wife was out of town … without setting off any alarms?

Why did Paul Pelosi tell the police his assailant was “a friend?”

Why is the broken glass spraying outward from the patio door?

the time of these calls as well – around 2:30am?

What we have learned about Nancy Pelosi from the Jan 6th 2021 “insurrection” is that she is inclined to dismiss any requests or calls for needed security, even when the security is necessary for the nation’s Capital Building and the elected officials that work there.

If there is really a possibility that a man who is mentally ill could manage to evade security systems installed at the residence of not only a couple who are multi-millionaires, but one of whom is perhaps the most powerful elected official in our country, I have to question the Pelosis’ sanity as well.

We are talking about one of the most powerful families in the entire nation . Nothing that reflects poorly on this family will be allowed to be divulged . Putting a lid on any disparaging information on this hideous family is job 1 !

Oh, Ah and Ew! I now find myself keenly disappointed that the guy clad in only his under panties didn’t turn out to be hammer-wielding Hunter Biden!!

I agree with @ garyrobbins about, at the most, once a year and this is one of those times. To my knowledge, and in saying that I wish to make it clear that I have not a thorough research into every possible source of information about this incident, there is not a scintilla of evidence that Pelosi had invited a male prostitute into his home for the usual purposes. I agree with @ dougwatt in the OP that there are many questions which cause a rather distinct aroma to be given off by this entire affair, and I appreciate his list in #19 as it is well reasoned listing of questions I am sure many of us have. In expressing this view of things, I am driven by many years (more than I should admit publicly) of practicing law as a Trial Lawyer and seeing, time after time, facts develop, both helpful and harmful to our clients, which no one could have dreamed would have been the case at the beginning of the trial. I am also driven by the infamous, sleazy, disgusting Duke Lacrosse case, in which it seemed the entire world, media, academia, law enforcement, etc., were determined to destroy the lives of young men who were eventually proven to be totally innocent of all the scurrilous charges levelled against them.

    ……

    God Bless America!

I read a book about the Duke Lacrosse Scandal. A striking fact was that the very many faculty members who had presumed guilt had not recanted at the time of publication of the book. Much the same way as Biden/ Harris and Co did not take down their tweets supporting Smollett, even after the truth came out. This “never admit you are wrong” approach leaves political Parties wide open to accusations of hypocrisy but clearly they believe enough people won’t care.

On a separate note I am disappointed -but certainly not remotely surprised – by the muted coverage ( non-existent where I live ) of the conviction of mass murderer Darrell Brooks. But this is how it goes.
