FBI Arrests MI Republican Candidate for Governor — Over Jan 6 Protest

I’ve done a little digging about this story: here’s the video on YouTube.

Michigan is having a lively Republican primary. The FBI arrested one of the contenders at his home and the local news, of course, broadcast pictures of his home showing the street number.

He was arrested for something like remaining in a public building without the King’s warrant. Hard to tell. It’s a misdemeanor.

He needs to run for federal office if he wants to use candidacy as a defense — works for Democrats. Most of the comments on the YouTube video are pretty good.

I would not be surprised that Jan 6th becomes a federal holiday celebrating the day the Republicans were destroyed as an effective political party.

No. January 6th, should be mourned/remembered like Pearl Harbor Day or 9/11 when our country was horribly attacked.

As for the destruction of the Republican Party, we are doing that all by ourselves by not firmly denouncing the mob that invaded the Capitol.

I am glad that he was arrested. I hope that every single person who invaded the Capitol is prosecuted.

The polling consistently shows that the number of people that care about Jan 6 continues to decline. It is declining amongst Republicans, Independents and even Democrats.

Even the Democrats realize this will not change the election, people are not paying attention.

But generally the ordinary American didn’t need to worry that his political affiliations would govern how the legal system treated him. I have been adamant that America did not have political prisoners. But, the law enforcement reaction to the events of January 6 has completely destroyed that belief.

…I do feel obliged to ask if what I’ve been (provocatively) saying for several years now — that the law is dead — is true or not; and if true, to what extend do US lawyers believe it is true.  Of more precisely, What is the health status of American law and juris prudence?  Is the law:

    Alive and well?
    Wounded but still standing?
    Wounded and on life support?
    “Mostly dead”?
    Or, dead?

And for whom, and to what ends, does the law now apply?

Clearly, one member wants a particular class of protester (or rally-goer) to be PROSECUTED for entering, and being ushered into by police, the nation’s Capitol — as “invaders”.  This member has already — apparently from news reports —  come to the conclusion that these citizens need to be arrested and punished far beyond the existing law for trespassing, and this seems to be an obviously emotional, irrational, and prejudicial, mean-spirited, and spiteful posture for one who is arguably a licensed law professional.

If I fear anything, it is the spread of this phobic, anti-American, and evil mentality within an otherwise sober, rational, and societally-necessary professional arena.

He may have “won”, but it is not clear he has the consent of the governed. He has the consent of the lords and ladies.

But aside from that, he is destructive to our rights and his government should not stand.

    This thread.

I think tonight represents the complete abandonment of any semblance of dignity for the legacy media. The three major networks, along with @CNN and @MSNBC, are giddily encouraging and amplifying a sustained, staged and scripted narrative that includes only the “evidence” chosen by a partisan committee, consisting of openly Trump-hating politicians hand-picked by Nancy Pelosi to turn a three-hour riot into an “attack on our democracy” and an attempt to “overthrow the government.” Their goal is crystal clear — to find a mechanism within the constitution to ban Trump from running for president in 2024.

The juxtaposition of this staged star chamber of unchallenged persecution with the strict rules of evidence we all witnessed in the Johnny Depp trial — replete with objections as to hearsay, material not in evidence, foundation, leading — is jarring. The partisan committee members trying to stop Trump from running have been given national airtime to say anything they want — to make any accusation they want to make, to produce any witness they choose, to edit together any video they desire — and to present it, unchallenged, to the nation as “the truth.”

In a just world — one in which journalists did the job they incessantly claim they unfailingly do — the panels at ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and MSNBC would serve as a check on this type of performative political theater. They’d remind their audiences that what they’re seeing is what the committee, and the Democratic party, wants you to see. They would challenge words like “coup” and “overthrow” and would note that the chairman made it clear in his opening remarks — implicitly but clear to anyone paying attention — that the goal of the committee was to find that Trump aided an “insurrection” and was thus disqualified from public office in accordance with section 3 of the 14th amendment. He didn’t, and it wasn’t.

But there’s no one on air to make any of those points — all of these networks are all in with their Democrat colleagues in effecting that very end goal, and they are more than willing to continue to sh*tcan their journalistic integrity to join hands with Dems to make it happen.
