Them Bucks, Them Bucks, Them Disney Bucks
Apparently there is a move afoot to strip Disney of certain privileges granted by the legislature in 1967 when they were wooing the creation of Disney World in the Orlando area. I say “Orlando area” because due to legislation Disney is not subject to Orange County wherein Disney World physically resides. And so it is that Republicans smarting from the “Don’t Say Gay” slander are considering repealing the law that granted these privileges.
But, according to Dr. Richard Foglesong, author of Married to the Mouse, Disney shouldn’t be worried too much —
“If you ask me whether it’s politically possible to take these privileges away from the Disney company, I don’t think so,” Foglesong said. “I think that cooler minds will prevail and that this is really a shot across the bow to try to bring the Disney company, Mickey Mouse if you will, into line with Governor DeSantis. I thought it was more of March Madness of the political kind, the thought that the Republican Party, which used to be the party of business, would want to take on [one] of their biggest donors.”
Well, first, a couple of corrections: (1) The Republican Party is not the party of business anymore. Woke corporations tilt Democrat. The uniparty is the party of Big Business. Ordinary Republicans, at least in philosophy and sentiment, appeal to the shrinking middle class. (2) Disney donations to Republicans in Florida are based on reasons that corporations always give money to politicians — access and influence. If Disney stakes out ground inimical to the interests of the overwhelming majority of Florida voters, then withholding campaign dollars only hurts Disney, not the politicians. Redirecting the money to Democrats in Florida will do nothing to sustain or improve Disney influence if it is seen as pro sexual grooming of children.
So I say, “rock on!”, repeal the 1967 legislation and show Disney that the people are in charge.

Large corporations are often trying to get special privileges that keep them free of the jurisdiction of local governments. Sometimes they even get the local governments abolished, as the price to be paid for keeping them and the jobs they provide. They don’t like a crazy patchwork of state and local regulation. They prefer globalism.
Ooo. You didn’t have me until “globalism”.
I hadn’t heard of the 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement Act before, interesting:
I see no reason why Disney should be governed differently than all other business entities residing in either the Orange or the Osceola county. Just as a common sense public policy measure there is a case to be made for repealing this.
Fine with me! Wonder if DeSantis will start looking at all those Disney Cruise ships leaving from Miami as well? I think that’s where a number of them leave from.
If this is the ground where the Leftists want a cultural fight, Grooming Kids, well OK. Let the massacre begin.
Are you as shocked as I am to learn The Bulwark is siding with Disney and groomer culture?
Now I know why that castle looks like an old man with droopy eyes and mouth open…
The president?
And/or a Groomer.
I’ve seen the President when he looked like a Groomer of young girls.
Six of one…
If the legislature does remove the special privileges, expect litigation accusing Florida of taking state action based upon viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First amendment.
Families Say ‘Goodbye’ to the Mouse as media giant pushes left-wing agenda on kids
How very Lincoln project of them.
Most leave from Port Canaveral, but it is a great point. With covid and the CDC edicts, cruise lines are hurting. Disney ships especially cater to families.it wouldn’t take much of a drop off to hurt its cruise line.
Also, Florida has another point in its favor, unlike other offended businesses, it can’t just relocate.
Does the Universal park operate under the same rules?
Depends on the location but it isn’t a city within a city.
“Disney donations to Republicans in Florida are based on reasons that corporations always give money to politicians — access and influence”
Not that long ago didn’t Disney announce they were going to stop giving to Republicans? I think this threat is perhaps a plan to remind Disney that if they aren’t giving to the Republicans then the Republicans don’t have a vested interest in helping Disney out.
