Why is it bad, for climate change reasons, to produce our own natural gas and oil, but OK to seek to bring it in from Russia or Saudi Arabia?  This is confusing to me.

This is doing deliberate harm to all Americans. (Even the rich, although they’re better able to weather it. The poor are doomed.)

So, knowing that this administration is deliberately hurting Americans, what can we do about it?

We are rapidly approaching that time which Patrick Henry spoke of on 20 March 1775.

If we wish to be free, if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending, if we mean not basely to abandon the noble struggle in which we have been so long engaged, and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained, we must fight!

I repeat it, sir, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to the God of Hosts is all that is left us!

It seems to me that a logical prelude to “an appeal to arms” would be a willingness to come out of the conservative closet and speak frankly in one’s own name.

As I’ve written before: If we are not willing to offend with plain speech our friends and neighbors, not willing to be thought of as that guy who says politically incorrect things, and not willing to do it in public, then it’s probably premature to speak of shooting people in defense of liberty.

    No.

ETA: I think I should explain my “No.” First, you don’t get to decide how any of us choose to identify ourselves. You can choose to ignore those of us who do so, of course. But not all of us are in a position right now to publish under our real names. If you don’t like that, too bad.

Second, note that I said we’re approaching the time, etc.

Third, the Founders frequently published inflammatory items under pseudonyms. I’m not comparing myself to them, but it’s a plain fact they did so. Hell, the Federalist Papers were published under pseudonyms. But not all of us are in a position right now to publish under our real names. If you don’t like that, too bad.

Finally, those who know me IRL know exactly where I stand.

For the same reason you sell your gas-guzzler and buy a Prius to save the planet. Oblivious to the fact that that same gas guzzler is now still on the planet, being driven every day, just by somebody else. (Psst – the planet can’t tell the difference.)

If you want to “save the planet”, you destroy your gas-guzzler. What’s $50,000 sacrificed when it’s the fate of the planet we’re talking about here? Do you care about the environment or not??

And if you support shutting off US petroleum production, you also have to agree not to buy any from anyplace else on the same planet!

    Idiots.

I da no.  Stopping fossil fuels is a religious crusade to the max  for the Left. To let the grievous mortal sinners of the world continue to still consume oil and gas would be absolute heresy and simply unforgivable.  Best they be burned at the stake instead.  Gauging one success by the price of gas at the pump is the standard of only the detestable Capitalist Roaders of the world.

    No.

ETA: I think I should explain my “No.”

I appreciate that, as I’m interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.

First, you don’t get to decide how any of us choose to identify ourselves.

Nor have I tried to do so. I have never told others what they must do, and have always and repeatedly acknowledged that some people simply aren’t comfortable “coming out,” and defended their absolute right to remain anonymous.

You can choose to ignore those of us who do so, of course.

I’m not ignoring you. I’m engaging you in a civil conversation. Again, I respect the position of those who feel that they can’t risk being public with their opinions.

But not all of us are in a position right now to publish under our real names.

At the risk of repeating myself: many times I have acknowledged that truth.

If you don’t like that, too bad.

I don’t like the circumstances, but I don’t think less of those who feel that they are trapped by those circumstances.

Second, note that I said we’re approaching the time, etc.

I saw that. In fact, you said we were “rapidly approaching” the time, etc. I don’t agree, in part because of how few people are yet willing to risk scorn, ridicule, and criticism — and the possible costs that come with them — by standing up in public opposition to what is self-evidently absurd. But I think we are rapidly approach the time when people are willing to do that, and I think that will preclude the need to resort to force of arms.

Third, the Founders frequently published inflammatory items under pseudonyms. I’m not comparing myself to them, but it’s a plain fact they did so. Hell, the Federalist Papers were published under pseudonyms.

Yes. Of course, the Founders faced the very real prospect of being hanged for their comments. As far as I know, we haven’t quite reached that point.

But not all of us are in a position right now to publish under our real names. If you don’t like that, too bad.

So you have said, and I’ll take your word for it. Again, I’m not telling anyone what to do. I’m not telling them that they “must” speak in their own voices. Nor am I telling them that we are fast approaching the time when they “must” take up arms.

I’m just saying, again and again, that I think those who can speak out, should speak out.

Finally, those who know me IRL know exactly where I stand.

    That’s a good start.

If they really feel that strongly about it, and will stand together as a political party, a united front to save the planet from fossil fuels, then they could cut fossil fuel use in half tomorrow, with this simple plan:

All liberal Democrats stop using fossil fuels. Just quit. Walk.

And leave the rest of us alone.

You won’t get everything you want, but you’ll get half – the half you have control over. Just stop.

Not to mention all the thousands of products and industrial processes that rely on petrochemical stock of one kind or another in order to produce whatever item it may be: natural gas essential to produce fertilizers, or the fossil fuel- based raw materials essential for synthetic fibers in clothing, all those “eco-friendly” plastic bags at the grocery store, probably half the components of the laptop on which I am typing, etc., etc.

Henry I’m afraid that either the policy makers or the environmentalists they fear and obey don’t look at high gas/fuel prices as a bug but as a perk.  Don’t you see?  If people can’t afford gas they will all buy shiny electric cars or ride their single speed bikes as Gaia intended!  See?  Everything is solved!  (never mind about all the things we buy delivered by trucks, heating oil, construction prices for homes skyrocketing)

Oh, I know that. There is a small majority of the nation’s population that wants sky-high gas prices because they think that will bring about the Green Nirvana of Magic Electricity.

But it’s still good to ask those who would defend Brandon’s executive orders to answer the question. Because people should understand what the progressive left has in mind for our future.
