It Could Have Been Worse: Kim Strassel and Ross Douthat Review 2021
It’s the last show of the year for Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson, and as is our tradition (for the last two years, anyhow), we’ve invited two of our favorite journalists —Ross Douthat of the New York Times and Kim Strassel of the Wall Street Journal— to look back, discuss, and analyze the year that was. We delve, discuss, and predict politics, the law, COVID, the future of Roe v. Wade, and much more.

Excellent conversation, Peter! Thanks for supplying the background so I could complete my Christmas cards for the Ricochet Christmas card exchange. I sometimes wanted to punch Douthat through my computer screen, especially when he seemed to say that the Covid lockdowns weren’t 100% bad for society. He needs to get out into the real America and talk to people who still live in abject fear for no good reason.
Merry Christmas!
I mostly enjoyed that. But how come Afghanistan wasn’t talked about? To me that is the preeminent issue of this year the issue that will define the Biden administration in history. Biden’s decline in the polls stemmed directly from that botched operation. I didn’t keep a tally of what I agreed with and who I agreed with more, but it was an good discussion. I probably agreed with both equally. I would say I agreed with Douthat on the Covid issue and agreed with Stossel on the return of America after Biden. But it’s apparent we live in solemn times.
This was not a very informative hour, at all. Ross Douthat had zero insights on anything. Peter as usual defers to his NYT guest. No controversial subjects are broached.
They talked about inside baseball legislative issues and ignored the real issues facing the American people, quite nicely, which seems to be the mission. Kimberly Strassel was more representative of my understandings, except for her praise of the Pharmaceutical industry for the ‘vaccines’ , but still nothing of any import or insight.
The final segment, pitched by Peter as a ‘fun’ section about the state of journalism, turned out to a discussion of why young people don’t want to go into journalism anymore. Ross informed us it’s because it’s a “dying industry”. Okay, yes it is. And?
@franco, I challenge you to make a new OP with your top-10 issues/events of 2021. That will be fun to discuss.
I already wasted an hour on this nothingness What did you think about the interview?
