Chasing Pokémons

This week, Lileks is on vacation so we asked our good friend Larry Kudlow to sit in his chair as we welcome the Manhattan Institute’s and Wall Street Journal columnist Jason Riley to the show to discuss the events of the last week. Yes, we also cover the presumptive nominee, and Larry makes a valiant effort to convince one of the hosts to support his candidate. Was Larry successful? Tune in to find out.

Music from this week’s podcast:
What’s Goin’ On by Marvin Gaye

The brand new opening sequence for the Ricochet Podcast was composed and produced by James Lileks.

RyanM: Kudlow’s last appearance was embarrassingly awful, and I have no desire to be subjected to that nonsense again.

I thought Kudlow was great, and should be on the podcast more often. He makes the most persuasive and reasonable case for Trump I’ve ever heard. He’d be a concession to those members who think the editorial slant of Ricochet is excessively anti-Trump, and also someone around to at least keep us #NeverTrump’ers intellectually honest.

Funny, I thought the exact opposite of that.

Hard to believe a smart guy like Larry Kudlow actually thinks that Donald Trump’s professed policies matter, or that anyone, including himself, should take him seriously.  As I tell my rabidly anti-Trump wife, “if you don’t like his policies, just wait and he’ll eventually change them to something you might like.”  ANY discussion about Trump’s policies – such as they are – are a waste of time.  No serious, principled person can get paste this unhinged, childish, paranoid buffoon, and for Kudlow to think that Trump’s “policies” will even be remembered, much less promoted, by Trump himself is fantasy.

Keep your wits, Rob! I’m looking forward to a better lineup next week.

Here’s a summary of what Kudlow said Ryan.

hahaha – yes, that sounds about right.  Last time, he added a few meaningless statements like “I think it would be wonderful to make America Great Again.”

What Jan, Gene and the long-lost Cato Rand said about Kudlow.

Jason Riley’s writing a biography of Thomas Sowell- that was the best news of the podcast.

“Progenitor” not “progeny” on the JFK-Reagan linkage, Mr. Kudlow. But yes, God save us from PhD  economists from the Ivy League.

Add my name to the list who think Kudlow is a poor co-host. I just can’t believe a word he says on this podcast, and all he really accomplished was to interfere with us hearing what Jason Riley had to say. Trump’s one, solitary, consistent principle over the years has been his support for protectionism; to think any recent disavowal means anything is delusional.
