Misha and John mark the first anniversary of the podcast by focusing on the continuing coronavirus controversy. They discuss whether the Chinese government’s response to the epidemic will become the rare event that challenges the legitimacy of the Xi regime. They ask if Beijing’s clumsy effort will hasten an international realignment away from China. They conclude with comparisons between the US and Chinese public health systems.

Unless I missed it, you didn’t talk about the fact that Trump has virtually been a broken record on our over dependence on  Chinese manufacturers and that our country needs to be more self sufficient. If ever he has proved to be 100% correct, this is a prime example as we now reap what we have sown.

When I bought a new washer and dryer last year, his words Made in America echoed in my ears as I proudly bought machines clearly labeled Made in the USA. When I shopped for a new tv there was not one labeled that it was made here as they all come from China or Japan, and most of the parts in the Japanese appliances come from China.  Last week I bought a new jacket at Nordstrom that clearly says Made in China. What has happened to our American clothes industry in the South? Also, when you mention finding manufacturing facilities other than China, other than reopening closed factories here, how about if we look to Mexico, Central America and South America instead of the countries you mentioned in Asia?
