Scott Rank, Ph.D., is the host of the History Unplugged podcast and today has released his latest book, History’s 9 Most Insane Rulers. As armchair psychologists question the mental health of our current politicians, this book shows how truly insane rulers are in a different category altogether. This is Scott’s 12th book and, when he isn’t writing or podcasting, he researches the history of the Ottoman Empire and modern Turkey.

REALLY liking the new “one host, one guest” format. Nice to hear Jon’s POV.
Thanks so much!
“You’re not dreaming big enough” hahaha. I read somewhere that Ivan the Terrible may have been suffering from mercury poisoning. Anyway, very interesting topic. Great interview.
Unintended side effect of this podcast: getting out my two Split Enz’s box sets and going down that quirky rabbit hole…
“This book shows how truly insane rulers are in a different category.”
Loved your reference to “The Death of Stalin”. I watched it recently, then convinced my wife to watch it with me. Chilling and probably the best example of dark humor I could ever imagine. I’ll be sure to pick up Scott’s book if only for the unhealthy interest in the bizarre.
