Odor Is Particulate

Welcome to this very special leap year edition of the mighty GLoP podcast! We’re going to let you, dear listener, find the provenance for the title in this episode. But yes, we do discuss the virus that’s going viral, the political response to it, as well as some of the best and worst movies based on a story like this. Also, some thoughts on the South Carolina primary and Super Tuesday, Jonah finally reviews Picard and reveals himself to be a germaphobe and a slob, Rob teaches us how certain cultures blow their noses and learns how to pronounce “endocrinologist” and reveals himself as a fan of the neti pot, and John never gets sick. See you in four years.

I am two weeks behind and listened to this today.

    Changes in past two weeks:

John laughs about 63 cases in the US and should we take it serious?  5700 today.  Yes, we should all take it very serious.  We should have taken it serious 2 weeks ago because now we will have 2 weeks of exponential growth before things slow down.  We missed the chance to be Japan, we might get to be South Korea if we band together, but looks like we might be headed toward Italy.

Biden won one – but would he win anymore?  Yes, he won them all and Sanders is done.

Is the media focused on worrying about the virus or politics and trying to after Trump?  Continues to be both but now it is THE STORY of the year so it dominates everything.

Jonah’s observations about Democrats not knowing why they lost is very relevant for NeverTrumpers who still don’t know why Trump won.  Its not permission to go nationalist – its that our politicians and elites simply cannot understand that immigration is the issue.  Thats it.  And Hillary was terrible.

As far as masks – too much binary thinking by you guys.  This works, that doesn’t.  Masks work to a degree.  If they are 30% effective that still have huge impacts on the contagion rate in the community.  And finally Contagion is very good on the science except she gives herself the vaccine and exposes self same day.  No.  No.

That reminds me that “Deep Impact” was much better on science/physics – such as “gravity” on their shuttles, etc – but audiences don’t seem to care because “Armageddon” was more of a “thrill ride.”

They like the dumpster fire that it Picard? The people have completely taken leave of their senses.

The only possible answer is that they aren’t really Star Trek fans. If they were, they would know better.

I don’t know about that. Jonah seemed pretty knowledgeable about TNG.

Also, Jonah dismissed Worf as a “dork who wanted to be a warrior” but he actually defeated – killed – Gowron, and could have been Chancellor of the High Council himself, except he gave it to Martok.  Worf basically saved the Klingon Empire, and consequently the Alpha Quadrant including the Federation.  Pretty good, for a dork.
