Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
Please Get Off Your Sitzfleisch
In his post below, Jim Pethokoukis, as usual, says something important. Economists have now proved what a lot of us already knew: people who have grit and determination — what the Germans call sitzfleisch — end up making more money and being more successful than those who don’t.
(Sitzfleisch, I guess, roughly translated means “sitting meat,” which about sums it up.)
Here at Ricochet we’ve got a lot of that sitzfleisch. In the early days of this experiment, we were often told to “pivot” to something else, that no one really wants civil and thoughtful conversation on the web. We were told that social conservatives and libertarians and — yes! — even RINO squishes would never be able to think and talk and joke together.
We keep sticking to our knitting. We keep plugging away, trying to make this a better and more efficient site. We keep our sitzfleisch in our seats, heads down, never giving up.
And we won’t give up.
And we won’t have to give up if those of you who aren’t members — and you know who you are — join right now.
Not tomorrow or next week or when you think of it. But now. Right now.
It’s an exciting election season. We’re adding some terrific new podcasts. We’re having meetups all over the country — next month in New York, DC in May. We’re fixing what’s buggy about the site and adding new features when we can.
In other words, we’re running high on grit and sitzfleisch. But we’re running low on members.
So if Ricochet is something you enjoy and want to support, please, please get off your sitzfleisch right now and join.
We’ll be honored to have you, to meet you in person at the meetups, and to add your grit and determination to ours.

German is such a beautiful language. :)
The podcasts are great, front section interesting but it is behind the screen in the members feed that the real magic happens.
“Das wasser es cold Herr Sitzfleisch”
“Ya Herr Long, es deep too!”
Get off my sitzfleisch, or stay on it? Your avatar shows you sitting down. Mine shows me standing up. Which is better?
Sitzfleisch muss man halt haben! Sonst kommt man in der Welt nicht weiter. Maar, mijnheer Lang, wat kan ik zeggen? Ik betaal reeds mijn vijf dollars elk maand.
Sitzfleischwurst sounds very tasty. Where can I get some?
See my comment #18 in this thread, per sitzfleisch

YES
Standing, of course. I’m only sitting due to my advanced age.
Wat zei je? Ik heb mijn nederlands bijna al vergeten.
As a fully paid-up member, I am disappointed that Ricochet is #45 in the top 50 Conservative blogs – Conservatives for Palin is #43…
Less Rino-squishiness please!
But the meetups are awesome – well, I have only been to the one in DC :-)
Go Ted!
Sitzfleisch may mean grit and determination in German, but in Yiddish (at least according the usage in my family) it refers to the ability to relax and sit still. Someone who’s constantly in motion – a hyperactive child or a type A adult – ‘has no sitzfleisch‘, according to my Yiddish-speaking grandparents. ‘Sitting meat’ is a bit strong; I’d translate it as a well-padded derriere.
Sitzfleisch is what people with ADHD don’t have.
Dat geloof ik niet. Hier schrijft je wel nederlands. De eerste twee zinnen zijn op duits, maar wat ik wil zeggen is dat: You’ve simply got to have Sitzfleisch! Otherwise you aren’t going to make in the world. And I’m already paying my five bucks. I’d pay ten if y’all broke the Thatcher Membership up into monthly installments. Ricochet’s worth more than Hulu. Which I don’t pay for anyway.
So it’s all about focus then, correct? Focused people get more accomplished than non-focused people.
Splendid.
Ist halt alles gutes altes Plattdütsch. :)
@ HvA – … And, yes of course, we shall gladly pay more per month or donate if required. Mr. Long may advise which way is preferred.
Wat leuk! Een multi-taalige conversatie op Ricochet.
