The First Day of School … With Russian Tanks Approaching

mariupol schoolUkraine’s parents and children celebrate the first day of school – the Day of Learning – in the old-fashioned way. The girls wear braided hair embroidered with ribbons. The boys wear their best suits. They all carry bouquets of flowers. First-graders carry paper cones full of candy. The Day of Learning is supposed to be an exciting and joyous event

I am touched by the images of the bright-faced school children of the port city of Mariupol, Ukraine, on their way to their first day of school. Russian tanks are within 20 kilometers, and Mariupol’s residents are using their meager means – digging ditches and erecting steel barriers – to fend off professional Russian forces. (Mariupol is the major port for Ukraine’s steel exports).

There are horrible images of children being killed in Syria and Iraq, but somehow I am touched by this picture of happy school children as I consider what lies ahead for them as Russian troops (or ‘pro-Russian separatists’ to be consistent with the MSM) breach Mariupol’s pitiful defenses.

    Paul,

Anyone who has read a history book has seen these images before.  We have lost both our ability to reason about our own interests and our ability to feel for those who are deserving of our help.

May this sophmoronic administration spend some time in hell if they don’t act to defend the Ukrainians NOW!

    Regards,

    Jim

Bless these children with your prayers, cause it looks like we won’t be doing much else for them.
