My Award-Winning Segment on Fox News
I was invited back to “The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson” to share my #NeverTrump views with America and the world at large. Fox News doesn’t allow embedding, but you can watch the clip here.
The appearance was regrettably short, because Donald Trump rudely gave his anti-free trade speech during Fox’s crucial Jon Gabriel Programming Block. But what remains is three solid minutes of punditry gold.
I was thankful they invited me back, but I wish the crew had warned me about two critical flaws, namely:
Nevertheless, I think I held my own, despite switching topics at the last second from Trump’s moderation of his all-Muslim ban to Trump’s radicalization of his all-trade ban. Reviews from Twitter were complimentary as always:
@exjon another trump hater who is waiting for a 3rd party white knight.trump is the nominee, period won fair square.u will not get all u want

You pissed off the right people. Said good things as well.
The rumpled collar is a sign of true intellect.
I don’t see how the feedback you received bolsters the argument that people support Trump for anything other than the basest of emotions.
Wow–can’t believe the tweets. I thought you were a paragon of moderation. You spoke very well and looked good, but if you want to look like a true intellectual, horn-rimmed glasses and more rumple please! Also, more crazy eyes.
Your eyes are open in the screen capture! Woo Hoo!
Or this…
You really need to have your coffee cup.
Looks like you’re doing a Simon Pegg impression!
Jon – you did very well.
I loved the part when you talked about how regulation is hurting the economy. It has not been said enough. Regulation is just killing small business ( we are losing somewhere between 30 to 50,000 small businesses a year net at this point under Obama), and it appears Trump is all for more regulation.
I don’t quite understand why I should vote for my own demise with Trump. Now it’s possible that Hillary could be much worse, but then again maybe not. One could describe scenarios for both outcomes.
As for the Trumpbots, what really irritates me is how they want to condemn, threaten and shut down any political discussion by anyone that does not praise Herr Trumpmeister. One of the reasons I cannot vote for Trump is that he has encouraged this un-American shutting down of free speech. That is simply unacceptable.
Keep up the good work. Fight the good fight.
Jon the anchor said you were a GOPer. I thought you had left the GOP? Your commentary was on point though.
Didn’t you turn in your Republican card?
I didn’t even notice that until the replay.
I’ve written your theme song:
Award winning indeed…
I wouldn’t say crazy eyes, but you do have a bit of a thousand-yard stare in that shot.
The primaries have taken their toll and you’re now wandering the battlefield.
To the one FNC commentor…. isn’t one of the problems that Donald is a *White* Knight?
With all due respect there, Petty Officer, you look like you just went “Oh No!, that wasn’t gas…”.
Thanks for that! My grandmother used to sing that to us.
Practice smiling…
It’s like watching the Unknown Comic without his paper bag.
I didn’t watch. I find TV news to be absolutely mind-numbing. Places like Ricochet not so much.
But since you are being self-critical, allow me to pile on.
Trump at one point made a statement about “banning Muslims” . Now, if you ascribe to hostile liberal interpretations, you simply insert the word “all” into any statement that doesn’t explicitly reject the notion. This makes your opponent have to continually argue about numbers and degree, rather than the idea itself.
Another example: The reports that Trump said (all) Mexicans are rapists, when the context of the quote clearly shows that he’s talking about a subset of criminals who the authorities in Mexico virtually “send” to us. Obviously, all Mexicans are not rapists, since half are women, another quarter are children, and we can ourselves understand that it’s patently absurd to believe that Trump meant “all” Mexicans, or even that Mexican men have some genetic propensity for rape that others don’t. Still, they will use these statements to make accusations, which hostile feeble-drone minds eagerly light upon and use as talking points to convince fellow travelers.
Continued –
So now Trump’s opponents make hay over his supposed reversals and flip-flops, when it was always their own hostile interpretations of his statements they convinced themselves was some policy-plan carved in granite somewhere in the bowels of Trump Tower.
Speaking of bowels, is it really CoC compliant to print drawings of a steaming pile of feces on the main page, even if it comes from an opponent? Hmmm.
Lastly Jon, I’ll not criticize you for your appearance or your sartorial lapse. But I will say that publicizing the messages from those who disagree with you which are the least eloquent and the most crude is a very cheap tactic for elevating your argument.
Have you been getting death threats too, like Michelle Fields?
Can’t wait for Jon’s tag line here to read “The Award-Winning Jon Gabriel, Ed.”
As others have no doubt wondered as well, how did someone this wildly controversial come to be an editor at Ricochet.com?
You made the point that matters, government is the problem not the solution.
The other guy had normal eyes and a seamless collar – what fun is that? Boring…..You did a great job – looked fine! They don’t give you much time to even make a point though….I’m not a never Trumper, but what you said was true – some of his positions are extreme and of course, are impossible – and he needs to quick freaking everyone out about what he might say the next day and start coming out in a more consistent moderate tone – super that Ricochet also gets recognition. Though loved Casey’s comment – that would make a great skit – next to the two of you, the unknown comic with the bag on his head and it’s really Trump! :-)
I don’t have a problem with the crazy eyes, I might even argue that they’re emblematic of the commentary.
Right out of the gate you go after the opinion of Trump supporters rather than after Trump himself. This reminds me of Democratic operatives like the MSM. Granted, you might find more wacky folks at a Trump rally than at most, due to his wide populist appeal, but is that the way to (mis)represent a candidate’s views?
I can’t argue with your point about the over-regulation of business, and your indictment of both sides, but you might have mentioned how a Hillary victory will likely enable Democratic down ticket races and give the party of regulation carte blanche. Even if Trump is as damaging as Hillary in this area (not a given), he’ll have pushback from his own side.
As a reluctant Trumper, I’m fine with your presentation. Stare crazy and carry on.
Next time, lobby to get in studio with her.
