Black Lives Matter Plaza Update 2
I know that many Ricochetti have been anxious to know when this important restoration would be completed. The new asphalt surface on the 800-900 blocks of 16th Street NW was barely dry when our crack restoration teams arrived to repaint the distinctive giant yellow letters of the District’s very own BLM Plaza.
I can report that the message has been restored in full in only one day which I know will be a source of both relief and inspiration.
No work crews were pulled from doing any belated repairs on schools or public housing, parks, or other DC facilities, because none of that was going to happen soon anyway.
Mayor Bowser would most likely want me to point out that the extraordinarily rapid execution of this project is not an indication, a promise, or even a suggestion that resolution of permit applications, tax issues, site cleanups, or any other functions of or services by the DC government will be done with alacrity and timeliness in the future.
Priorities Matter.

Thank goodness! I couldn’t stop thinking of the challenges faced by the BLM founders, some of whom have several large mortgages to pay and so can’t afford to be without funds. I appreciate the city getting the advertising back up quickly.
One can only pray that there is a new generation of taggers waiting in the wings for their opportunity to shine. This is their moment.
Having just read the article about the couple in DC who could not get car violation tickets waived EVEN THOUGH THE HUSBAND WAS CARJACKED!!!, I am gratified to know that Mayor Bowser and the DC government is doing the important stuff. Thanks for the update @OldBathos.
Forget statehood, I favor swamphood. Let’s return D.C. back to nature and move all federal services to Yucca Mtn.
That thing is such an abomination, and like I said months ago, in a normal city there is quite a process to close a street (now plaza). My only comfort is that it is designed for aliens to read, perhaps like the Nazca lines. Nobody on foot or in a car can read it, but I guess as a plaza vs. street it would be harder to spray or otherwise apply stealth applications of some kind of solvent like my first evil plan involved (never thoroughly researched).

It is such a beautiful and inspiring addition to the city. It will surely be repeated nationwide, as mayors seek to outdo one another in Wokeness.
We lived in Southern Maryland for 10 years in the late 90s and early 2000s. We went up to DC every month just to eat out, and check out all the cool stuff in the city. I feel so badly that it is being treated this way. I’d LOVE to encourage the Stencil Squad….

Tomorrow night send out a militant squad armed with banners and paint and take over the next block, painting “LBGQ ROCKS!”, and dare anyone to stop you. Then the next night another block with “Support Hamas!” and maybe one going another direction with “Trans Lives Matter!”. Don’t stop until you run out of grievance groups.
Just keep going until either someone from the government will try to stop you, whereupon you can start your screaming invective to high heaven, or you will have successfully tied a major American city in a knot of its own bull***t.

When I lived in DC in the bad old days, you could count on two things: axle-snapping potholes that were never fixed, and draconian parking-meter enforcement. By some odd turn of events, it was the latter that generated revenue.
The Potholes are still there. Parking fines are higher and the rules and times more complicated.
There are now speed cameras everywhere and the default speed limit in DC is 20, not 25 (I think it is still 20–it was “emergency” rule-making last summer that dropped it) so for DC Govt it’s Cha-ching, baby! all day long.
