SCC explains the decision to shut down their website:
Well, this was certainly a long time coming. Fifteen years, over 22,000 posts, almost two million comments and God knows how many attempts to silence us. But it might finally be over…at least this version of it.
This is a very sad day for me, and a sadder day for the residents of Chicago. Profane, and a blog that skewered their own department, Chicago politics, the State of Illinois, and the shooting gallery that Chicago has become.
Over the weekend, we received information from a contact at Google that internal chat/e-mails led them to believe that certain precautions we had taken over the years had been breached by Google. We had gotten similar warnings from others in the past, and we dealt with or ignored them as the situation warranted. But this one was different.
And this one – on the heels of Big Tech’s wholesale attack on the President, Parler and center-right to right-leaning authors, politicians and voices – pointed to a countdown that had far less time than we had thought. Most likely, far less time than you think, too. The blacklisting has begun, even if you won’t see it. You should – the wholesale abandonment of the President, the denunciations, the, “I wasn’t really with him” self-serving statements. Sound familiar? It should…if you have any recollections of the show trials behind the Iron Curtain, in Southeast Asia, in assorted Middle East kleptocracies.
Disavowal and re-education is on tap. What Senator McCarthy is remembered for – “Are you now or have you ever been…” has been twisted, refined (Bake that cake!), and exacerbated (Parler is only the first of many). They don’t want “unity.” They want Compliance and as the last fifteen years have shown, we aren’t really good at compliance. The amount of personal data available to “woke companies” who would deny commerce or service based on beliefs, contributions, investments (not Green enough!), social media posting, employment (cops not welcome here), bumper stickers – Have you heard of Operation Choke Point? Look it up and imagine it drilled down to individual citizens. Orwell’s 1984? It’s here.
I was invited to do two podcast interviews to discuss policing recently (I neglected to reply to one, my apologies). I responded to another and my reply was that I would rather not due to the anti-police atmosphere of the last year or two. I was told that another officer had declined the invitation as well. I have thought about posting under an alias, and after seeing Second City Cop go dark, an alias is looking like the way to go.

I just saw that American Thinker has disabled comments, since they cannot be moderated in real time. I wonder how long they have left.
I often forget about this website, but whenever I have visited, it has blown me away.
I understand why they’ re deciding to shut down, but they provided valuable commentary. They actually are more needed now than ever.

I’ve kept track of the goings-on in Chicago via a number of sites. Second City Cop was a favorite.
This is despicable. Google delenda est.
I think that simple news reports like this one regarding censorship are among the most important items that could be promoted to the main feed.
That way we can forward them to people who don’t understand the seriousness of what is happening right now.
On the other hand … if doing so puts the site at risk of being shut down, I can see how it would be better not to promote.
To hell with it. I’ve changed my mind. It’s now eligible for the Main Feed.
Now is the time to lay low and arm up. Winter is coming.
I think that they do want Unity and Peace. The same way that Islam wants Unity and Peace.
A number of Chicago journalists have lost the original source for some of their stories going forward.
I noticed that. Blogger was requiring a sign in to get in, which was pretty good evidence that it was going dark. It’s a damned shame.
Second City Cop was one of the best blogs around. I was so sad to see it end. Chicago is in desperate need of voices like Second City Cop. Hopefully it comes back in some form or another.
Mrs Rodin is concerned about my level of posting. It is time to evaluate and consider.
More to the point, they want Islam. Which means “submission.”
The Chicks on the Right have said in their last couple of podcasts they think sooner or later they’ll be shut down. They’re looking for alternatives as all conservative web site owners should. Heck, even liberals who’ve strayed from the leftist reservation a few times might consider the same . . .
Someone on Ricochet recommended SCC to me when I mentioned I was from Chicago in an early post. I’ve checked it almost daily since then and written a few comments myself. I learned a lot about how law enforcement functions here (if “functions” is the right word for it). Hopefully it will come back. There are other good blogs but SCC was unique and as @percival said, a lot of others used it as a source for their stories.
Winter came Nov 4.
It seems that failing to stop the steal has really emboldened the left. Going for broke.
I was told that if Republicans just made good policy arguments, they’d win elections, and this wouldn’t have happened.
And was told that, somewhat, again today on a podcast.
Nice to see another Chicagoan around here. Welcome. Too bad about SCC, it was one of the only real news outlets left in this town. Used to be a robust press, but now there’s so much incestual relationships between pols, reporters, and other elites. I hope you’re in a good spot where you live and where you work, in order to stay out of harms way and to keep the mob away. There may have been a time when I might have said that pushback would work around here, but that time is long gone I think. I’ll be ok for a little while longer here in my SW side stronghold (the other cop neighborhood that’s not Mt Greenwood), but Indiana, Tennessee, or Florida are looking more and more appealing.
We already knew it was bad when President Trump couldn’t even hold a rally here without causing a riot. Wasn’t that even before we won in 2016?
Whoever told you that makes an assumption that elections are fairly administered. The very laws that mandate partisan observers is an acknowledgement that they won’t be fairly administered without said observers.
So the remedy is to adopt policies that reduce observations, like mail in voting among others.
Can’t win elections if the other side can steal it. Doesn’t matter how good your policies are.

Hey there, nice to meet you! I’m in the Loop so it feels tenuous here. So much is shut down and there’s a dreary feeling in the air. The idea of a red state makes sense. I’m thinking of moving back to IN after this school year finishes. People seemed so much nicer and more low-key. A red state might be some kind of buffer for the worst (not to mention the difference in taxes!) don’t you think?
In another thread I was talking about looking for places to move to in Indiana. I think I’m ready to pull the trigger on that, but I don’t have any confidence in picking a new community. Any suggestions? So far I’ve been concentrating in teh counties surrounding Indianapolis; some interesting places I found, but I can’t shake the fear that I’d be getting pout of this shrinking puddle only to land in a decaying or declining community with little to offer my kids. I wish I were able to get down there for some extended scouting trips.

No need to be sorry – as much as we try we can’t read everything that passes through these pages. A DM would be appreciated. I think I need to make a move sooner rather than later. I was hoping to wait it out another few years, but the cons are starting to outweigh the pros.
