How ‘Tiger King’ Made Me That ‘Game of Thrones’ Guy

If you dare speak to me about that stupid dragon show again I will eat you.

I was never into “Game of Thrones” (henceforth referred to as GoT). Many other people were, however. There were even GoT nights at bars were people dressed up and talked about GoT. This is all fine. It’s nice that people have (had) the time and freedom to mingle with their fellows about shared passions. I wish that there was an American history night at bars but I’m used to being in the intellectual and philosophical minority.

But there was a flaw not uncommon with GoT fans. They could not understand that I did not want to talk about “Game of Thrones.” This is a typical conversation with GoT fans when the show was still on air:

GoT: Oh man. Last nights episode was so bizarre. I think the giants will side with wizards and the sorcerer lady is going to marry the dwarf and-

Me: Uh. That’s great and all. But I don’t watch GoT.

Well: I think that ice zombie King is going to…

They weren’t bad people. They are quite similar to autistic people who can’t understand how other people aren’t interested in what they are interested in.

Autistic people are sometimes thought of as being jerks but that is not usually the case. They genuinely cannot empathize that other people aren’t interested in their favorite topic. When autistic people talk ceaselessly about what fascinates them, they are treating other people the way that they would want to be treated. It’s very difficult for them to understand that other people have different tastes.

But after watching “Tiger King” on Netflix, I now understand how GoT people feel.

I would be completely content if Ricochet for the next week did nothing but talk about “Tiger King” with periodic updates about Coronavirus from the competent data geeks who do all the math.

Boss Mongo, Charlie Kirk, and Kevin D. Williamson are like this with the topic of guns. Richard Epstein can be like this when it comes to Roman Law. I also notice that people who are into astrology have to let you know about how they are interested in astrology.

What’s your interest that you used to bore people with? Or if you are comfortable sharing this, what’s your interest that you still bore people with? I promise to be respectful because in episode 2 of “Tiger King” there was this lady that lost an arm but was still part of that tiger zoo and she was such a sympathetic…

As someone who never read the books but enjoyed the show, the most insufferable people are: I don’t watch the show, I read the books.

Not to queer your statistics, but sometimes I read the book, sometimes I watch the movie, yet I’m always insufferable.

So it’s a TV show. I’ve been wondering what this Tiger King thing is that people keep referencing. Even stuck inside on house arrest I still couldn’t figure it out.

Based on your response, I disagree about your insufferability

I like maps, a lot, and history, and old US Highway routes, and I’m currently combining those together to map down the old US Highway Routes.

Those east-west routes are pretty high-scoring, but I think you might run out of trains before completing all of them… oh wait, we aren’t talking about Ticket to Ride?

The sub-title for this post should have been, “or suggestions regarding how to A-Clockwork-Orange-torture Rob Long”.

During the original run, I got free HBO for a week and watched two episodes. In the first one I saw Boromir, but Sean lost his Bean. I don’t really remember the second.

I don’t understand. Sean always loses his Bean. Dying is the actor’s signature move. That’s why there’s a Beanstalk.
