Overshooting the Target on Social Issues, Yet Again

I am fairly agnostic when it comes to gay marriage; perhaps libertarian is the better word. I don’t really care what other people do, as long as it doesn’t harm anyone else. Those on the opposition on the gay marriage issue always said “if gay marriage is legalized, there is absolutely no reason why polygamy shouldn’t be next.” We were, as usual, gaslit by the progressive Left and assured that any concerns were overwrought and exaggerated. And now, well, here we are:

The People Magazine writeup is effusive; everyone is just so excited that the home improvement show is so inclusive, so progressive, so perfect. It’s just another data point on why conservatives who lean more libertarian (i.e. folks like me) refuse to be gaslit on social issues any longer. The stated goal is never the endpoint; it’s only just another part of a journey towards a total societal breakdown of social norms.

None of this would have happened had the darn hospitals relaxed their visitation rules.

Yes, hospital visitation rights were the core issue. But it’s too late now…we have to do penance…and who knows where it will end.

The first paragraph in the OP and the last are very telling. Sometimes it’s not obvious at first that anyone is being hurt. The Bible could be crudely described as the manufacturer’s operating manual. (It is really so much more than that.) If our own opinions are contrary, it is those we need to examine. It must have taken a certain amount of courage to write the OP and I commend Bethany for doing it. I hope that you’re not feeling like you’re getting beaten up here @bethanymandel

“What can’t go on indefinitely, won’t.”

The assault on marriage and  the Judeo-Christian concept of marriage is not just about marriage, homosexuality and other such relationships; it can seen as a part of a larger assault by Nihilist/Marxist Left to destroy society and all it’s institutions to make way for the Marxist takeover where the populace has been cowered and manipulated into being little dependent steeple drones that offer little of no resistance to the Ruling Clique.

Bethany Mandel: We were, as usual, gaslit by the progressive Left and assured that any concerns were overwrought and exaggerated.

Actually we were gaslit not by the Left, but by the  GOP establishment.  When  there was momentum for  a constitutional amendment on marriage our leadership assured us it wasn’t necessary, that that was “overkill”.  And the moment and momentum passed …

Kozak, I like your comment, but Bethany may have a point about this.  The GOP establishment may have been gaslit by the Left.  This was probably driven both by individual moral weakness, and by a desire to appeal to libertarians and independents.  Libertarians uniformly favor the breakdown of any social norms.  I have little understanding of the motivations of independents, who generally seem quite muddle-headed to me.  Perhaps they simply have no strong beliefs, don’t like conflict, and don’t like having to make a decision.

And, Bethany, you call yourself a Jew?  Jews cannot be “agnostic” on the subject of marriage. It matters to humanity how marriage is defined, and homosexual behavior is antithetical to the survival of the human race. It then follows that Jews who follow God’s commandments cannot be libertarian.
