How Did You Find Ricochet?

We are having a nice discussion on the member page talking about ways to improve Ricochet and advertising is coming up.

It led to my remembering how I found Ricochet a few years ago. I was watching Uncommon Knowledge on YouTube and Peter Robinson was interviewing John Yoo; they talked about something called Ricochet and I wondered what it was. A few more videos and the constant mentioning of the site came up and I decided to come here. I started listening to podcasts and became hooked pretty soon after.

It might help The Powers That Be find more members if they learn why you joined the club. Share your stories here.

If nothing else, I would love to hear more peoples’ “finding stories.”

Peter and Rob were the original draw for me, as they were for many, and they remain a draw. But when I think of the other draws, from Paul Rahe to James Lileks,  long, thoughtful articles, amusing, short articles, and podcasts of many sorts, there are too many for me to list.

Beyond the stars, the rest of you regular contributors are what makes Ricochet the place to visit, and read, and linger. It simply amazes me to read long, imaginative, well constructed posts on far flung subjects, almost all without even a tinge of the generalized insanity of the Interwebs.

I’m extremely grateful for all your time, efforts, and good spirits because you have made and continue to make Ricochet a capital D Destination!

I was hanging out around NR mostly when they started it. I would listen to the podcasts. Eventually joined.

Like many others here, I came to Ricochet via NRO.

National Review made me a fan of Rob Long (and Jonah Goldberg). For a brief time Rob had his own blog, which I read. That led me to Ricochet. Joined in August, 2010.

Undoubtedly NRO-related, although I cannot recall the exact sequence of events. Pretty sure that it was some comment from @bossmongo on some post that convinced me to pony up for a membership!

    Boss is the best!

Aw, shucks.  You all goan’ make me blush…

My understanding is that Steyn was one of the original founders (together with Peter and Rob), but left shortly thereafter under mysterious circumstances. As he seems to do with most of his professional relationships save for Rush.

I joined because of Steyn and he was the first one I followed on the site. Still haven’t gotten any notifications. Hey! You don’t think this is one of those bait and switch things, do you?

I was a regular reader of Lileks’ “The Bleat”. Lileks would occasionally mention he was working on a project elsewhere. Finally someone in the comments mentioned Ricochet.

I found Ricochet’s flagship podcast through National Review and Mark Steyn. I’d heard Peter Robinson on The Hugh Hewitt Show when Robinson & Long launched their short-lived news aggregation site. I so enjoyed the flagship podcast & I knew it was worth paying for.

Good, Heavens! I just checked my profile & I joined nearly 9 years ago.

just like @RPD, I’ve been a Bleatnik for too many years.  When Ricochet started, James Lileks was one of their original writers.  I lurked on Ricochet for several years and finally joined in 2011.
