Texts From Democrats
Last Saturday, I had this text exchange on my phone:
Oh, by the way, my name’s not Shawn.
This year, I’ve gotten four text messages asking me to support candidates, all Democrat. One was for a US Representative race in New Mexico. I haven’t lived in New Mexico since 2004, and I never had this telephone number there. One was for a US Representative race in Texas, but not in my district. Only one had my correct name and was about a candidate for whom I could actually vote.
This begs a couple of questions:
How accurate are polls if the candidates themselves can’t get the information correct?
How much of Rockstar O’Rourke’s vaunted $38 million is being spent on useless stuff like this?
If the Dems loose North Dakota, Missouri, Florida, Indiana, Arizona, Nevada, maybe New Jersey and Michigan, how quickly is the Betaman going to become a pariah for wasting all that money to lose by 8%?

I’ve not received any Beto texts. Guess he knows not to mess with me. 😎
The Dems constantly use free food to get out the vote in places like Laredo.
Me too, exact same thing. I just delete them now after I realized that blocking the numbers did nothing.
Is there a downside to sending back a snarky reply? As long as they are pro telemarketers I imagine not. But what if they’re true believers working the phones in a boiler room? I wouldn’t take the chance.
Boooooo. Then it’s safe to tell them I unsubscribe. Thanks for the update. Still creepy.
In Milwaukee they bribe the homeless with cigarettes and quarters.
And you still have the [CoC] same day Voter Registration, good for vote fraud.
They only have to lose half of them to be hurting. But I suspect Menendez will get more blame, even if (as is likely) he holds on. Beto’s long-shot can be seen as a courageous effort, while there is no good spin possible on Menendez’ blue-state troubles.
That said, I haven’t heard of the others hurting for money. Certainly House Democrats seem to have more to throw around than House Republicans on average.
It felt good at the time.
In Milwaukee they bribe everyone with at least cigarettes.
In 2003 I had an interview with Miller, and the building still smelled of smoke. All the people I met told me how, when they were owned by RJR, the conference rooms had bowls of cigarette packs and you were looked down on if you didn’t grab one and light up.
Good enough for me.
You’re always very funny, @arahant.
I’m always a dead man.
Well, there’s enough reason for the Dems to call you, right there!
Suddenly this year, I get an unsolicited political text of that kind about every other day. I have no idea how they all got my number or why it just started this year. It drives me crazy. I forward every single one of them to the AT&T spam reporting service.
Yeah, that can be said of lots of things that got us in trouble. :-)
Okay I get that this won’t work for everyone, but this is what I do.
I have a landline because I can’t stand when there are two cell phones trying to talk to each other. Sometimes it’s absolutely awful. The other thing is, I like screening calls. I have a Panasonic land line you can just hit a button and it blocks the ringing on any phone number you want. They largely quit using my landline for telemarketing. It works like a charm. (I noticed that my sisters or both on Verizon and their cell phone to cell phone calls are exceptionally good, fwiw)
I never give out my cell phone number, except for whom it’s absolutely necessary. I use TracFone so it’s not like it’s uneconomical for me to have two phone numbers. I started getting a ton of telemarketing on my cell phone. The “Kurt the cyber guy” on Fox and friends recommended the Call Control app to counter telemarketing on cell phones. So I have Call Control pro for android. $30 annually. They crowd source spam phone call analysis. It works really well. I haven’t needed to use it for texts.
I use an iPod for podcasts and some music. Since the screen is so small (4″ diagonal, I love it) there is some YouTube type stuff that I won’t think of watching like I should. I need to figure that out.
So the nice thing about all of this, is my cell phone battery it Is always fully charged.
On email, I keep my iCloud email very private. All of my bulk stuff and most of the stuff I’m worried about being spoofed on I send to Microsoft outlook on the web. It’s free. Their spoofing controls are excellent. They do however identify way too much conservative email as spam, but that is to be expected because everyone knows we live in a Fascist Technocracy.
The other thing is since I’m on Mac at home and I use android when I go out of the house, I just don’t end up using much data on my phone. I can’t see my Twitter account. etc. It’s strictly utility. I’m not addicted to it at all. I get that many people can’t do that and they really do need a high powered Digital Swiss Army knife in their pocket at all times.
I save so much that I have an old iPad mini with a data plan that I use for navigation, and streaming radio. It’s also easier to send emails if I have to.
Again, this whole system isn’t going to work for everyone.
Same here. For the past week or so.
I almost wish I got spam texts. My goal would be to make them stroke out. “Oh, [CoC] I almost forgot about the election! Thanks for the reminder, Ted Cruz is the best!”
