Question of the Day: Bowe Bergdahl to the Stockade

 

On Monday, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl pleaded guilty to charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. He is looking at up to five years for desertion and possibly life in prison for misbehavior before the enemy.

    I’m not calling for his death. I just believe that was historically the penalty for desertion, so I’m surprised that the penalty is only 5 years now.

    I am.  His desertion and his conniving with the enemy led to the deaths of other Americans.  Death, and if death is not listed as a punishment for his crime, then the maximum penalty.

    Punishments are intended to deter.  Eddie Slovik’s case makes a great example.

    People died looking for him. He should go to prison for just as long as he would if he had been charged with man-slaughter for all those deaths. (4-6?) So 15 years each – to be served consecutively.

    CNN says 6 soldiers died in the search.
