RaShaunda and Shenicka Sitting in a Racist Tree
My wife is back in university retooling for another run at the rat race employment. To that end, being a while out of university life she is taking a series of workshops to get back into the education mode and out of real-life mode. One of today’s workshop was writing where they use a website called chompchomp.com for grammar instruction. In one of the examples/lessons on comma splice or fused sentences, the following sentence was presented for class discussion and diagramming.
During English class, Anthony kept flirting with RaShaunda because his behavior was keeping Shenicka from understanding the lecture, Shenicka whacked him over the head with her heavy dictionary.
A young black womyn from the back immediately announced that the statement was racist to the bafflement both the instructor and the class. When asked why she said that it was because of the names. My wife commented that she just thought they were using random names to include everybody and if just the use of names were racist then everything was racist. The girl stated that they could not possibly understand the racism involved unless you were black and since they were white they could or would not see it. At this point my wife just shrugged her shoulders and turned her back to the next lesson in hand. The young black womyn left the class and was last seen heading to the university’s administration office.
This should be interesting to see how it plays out.
BTW, the example is a fused sentence.

I thought this was going to be a spoof because it reads like a spoof. If it’s not a spoof, things are getting worse – this is college??
Not a spoof. Satellite campus of a major university. Wife just got home with this story and I had a few minutes and thought Ricochet would be interested.
This looks like something that was most certainly going to happen at some time during the term. It just happened to occur in your wife’s class.
Well she has an early start at it. These are workshops to prepare for classes that do not start until the end of the month. If this young lady is offended on the second day of workshops then I can’t image what a heavy load of daily classes is going to do to her.
Of course my main concern is if any blow-back from this idiocy will hurt my wife’s effort to retool.
I’d like to know why the black chick thought RaShaunda and Shenicki were black, or Anthony was white. Maybe she exhibited her own bias in her statements and her actions . . . .
Or maybe she got dollar signs in her eyes (I’ll settle for free tuition).
A SJW English major?
I suspect the very question you ask is racist to this lady.
It’s official, there is no such thing as racism.
It’s a good thing Shenicka didn’t stab Anthony. I don’t see having a dictionary at the ready as racist.
I do think the names in the sample sentence are ridiculous. Who names their kid Anthony?
This clearly normalizes violence and must be stricken if anyone is to feel safe.
Anthony is lucky that his school isn’t located in Chicago.
FJ/JG,
Obviously, your wife doesn’t grasp the concept of skin color expertise. If a black person says something is racist then it is racist and unless you are also black you can’t challenge this. Recently, Maxine Waters a noted black expert on Constitutional Law and someone with an IQ well below 90 called Alan Dershowitz a racist. Alan said that just because she is black doesn’t give her a license to go around calling people racist.
Alan just doesn’t grasp the finer points.
Regards,
Jim
You mean the verbal violence Anthony can’t help but commit by speaking in the presence of African-Americans?
BTW, Obviously my Anthony is white, so I’m a racist too.
Quite a few Italian families. Personally when it comes to Harvard, Yale, and Princeton I find Anthony preferable to Muffy or Bink. When it comes to the SEC schools I find Anthony preferable to Bubba.
Doug,
Actually, this was Chicago and later RaShounda was wounded by a stray bullet from a noon drive by. However, no white police (or white Latino police, or white Asian police, or white…) were involved so it didn’t matter.
Regards,
Jim
Tony ain’t no Ivy-Leaguer. You take that back!
But he is, he’s on a hockey scholarship.
No one named Bink would dare step onto the ice. Bink’s and dinks are the hunted on the ice. The meek may inherit the earth, they don’t inherit the ice.
Yeah, but Bubba’s real name is usually something like Widdrington MacKenzie Bloviator, IV. Wouldn’t you go by Bubba, too? (My cousin did.)
Okay, he’s excused. Give a kid his own name. It’s not like the kid is in the direct line of succession as the Holy Roman Emperor.
Grammar is racist in and of itself as it assumes a superiority to the forms of Privileged White probably Patriarchal Heterosex Oppressors. Shame on the University for it’s lack of Progressive Thought.
Why Shenicka got to be a “her”?
I’m surprised they teach it at all. English is the language of the imperialists*!
*Spanish is the language of the imperialists, too, but we’ll save that for another time.
And if the names had been “Sally” and “Jane,” I’m sure that would be racist, too! (Or at the very least: “Problematic.”)
Heads I win; tails you lose!
Sounds like an episode of Sally Jessy Raphael.
Regular viewer Mike?

The thing about nicknames is that you can’t assign yourself a nickname (unless it’s a derivative of your given name), so you’d have to do something Bubba-worthy first.
Only if cheerleaders are featured. ?
No, but Shenicka using a dictionary is cultural appropriation.
