Uncommon Knowledge at the Reagan Library
Sunday afternoon 500-600 people gathered at the Ronald Reagan Library for a live edition of Uncommon Knowledge. A large contingent of Ricoteers was in the audience, and if you didn’t make it, we missed you! Our beloved Peter Robinson was interviewed by Ricochet contributor and all-around lovely guy, Pat Sajak, who is also known for playing hangman on TV.
The Uncommon Knowledge episode was wonderful! Peter told us quite a few anecdotes about the evolution of the “Tear Down This Wall” speech, a few of which made me tear up. I know some of you watched it via livestream, and the Blue Yeti promises to have it properly posted soon. Patience, please, as he is a VERY busy Yeti for the next few weeks.
Afterwards we had a nice reception in the front room of the museum. Pat and Peter worked the room, and chatted with lots of us. We even got some great pictures. Everyone, please post yours here, or start a new thread with your impressions.
Of course, the one cord I need to connect the big camera to my laptop did not make it into my bag, so iPhone pics will have to do for now.
Here’s (l-r) the Blue Yeti, me, and Peter:
Upon leaving the Library, a party-dedicated band of Ricoteers invaded a local vineyard (Stonehaus in Westlake) for food, drink, and conversation. Here’s partial list of attendees: Jamie Lockett (one of my new best friends), barbara lydick, Annefy, Cowgirl, 6Foot2, David Sussman (ya’ll check out his Whiskey Politics podcast), Larry Koler, Brian Watt, Bereket Kelile, and quite a few whose screen names I missed. We also had some lurkers and some prospective members.
If you have never made it to a live meet-up, you are missing something special. Don’t wait around; initiate one! If you’re going somewhere, post asking if there are any members nearby who would like to get together. This is a special community. I love it!
Respectfully submitted,
PJS
Ricochet PTA Mom and Den Mother (thanks Jamie)
EJ, can I sign up for that service?
I am jealous (in the good way) of all of you who were able to attend. Oh, to have been there!
Had a great time at the live recording of Uncommon Knowledge at the Reagan Library yesterday. An honor to meet Peter Robinson and wished I had talked to Pat Sajak. Great to meet so many of you. Plan on transitioning from a lurker on Ricochet to a commenter on posts and writer on the feed. Look forward to future Ricochet events. Also, will have some posts on what is going politically at UCSB later in the year. Here are my best pictures:
And we’re looking forward to hearing from you @eduardopaez. It was a pleasure meeting you yesterday.
And do keep us posted on your experiences at UCSB
Love the pictures – could someone post the lecture here – I missed it?
The Yeti says it will be posted in ten-ish days.
Here’s the unedited, raw video from the Reagan Foundation. The video actually doesn’t start until about 27 minutes in. Enjoy.
It was an excellent evening! The interview was delightful and moving and hilarious and elucidating. The after-conversations were so FINE! It’s really fun to meet the humans behind the aviators and to just let the conversations roam where they will. Thanks for all who could come, and I’m sad for those who couldn’t. It was totally worth my effort. Plus…I got to visit the ocean. I realize that I only took photos of the water and none at the Ricochet Event! I was just enjoying myself talking to people and not thinking about taking pictures! I hope some photo of me there exists.
In the meantime: enjoy the coastal waters–this is Surfer’s Point in Ventura.
I see from the comments that I missed meeting several members after the event. Sorry to have missed some of you since meeting fellow members is my main reason for attending these events.
For those of you who went to this and found out for the first time how much fun Ricochet Meetups are, perhaps you would be interested in going to the full-weekend meetup we are holding near Glacier National Park in September.
Marvelous evening. The main event was wonderful – it was a class act. (How else would one define an event with Messrs. R and S.?)
Even tho many of us had heard a number of the stories Peter told, they were always ‘hits and bits as time permits’, never as one continuous story complete with details that most of us were unaware of.
After the lovely reception, we had a mini-meetup in Westlake Village at the Stonehaus Winery. (A great place to consider for a future meet-up.) As we were sorta’ getting ready to leave, a woman came up and introduced herself as CowGirl. Well, I almost fell over. She had just posted a piece about growing up on a dairy. I had been meaning to make a comment before leaving for Simi Valley, but ran out of time. How fun it was to share dairy stories. (Full disclosure: she lived it; I only spent summers at my aunt and uncle’s dairy farm with my cousins.)
In summary, a good time was had by all.
Annefy: Will send you the gazpacho recipe (that I cobbled together from others seeing how I lost the orig. It’s pretty darn close, tho).
Looking forward to it! Thank you. And it was lovely to meet you.
It was superb meeting, and talking to, both of you!!
It was great to see everyone, especially after a long drought since my last meetup. The feeling still hasn’t worn off for me.
Someone has group photos of us at the Berlin Wall exhibit and the winery. Those should get posted here, too.
That would be 6 Foot 2. Gentle nagging may be in order.
It’s already on the main feed.
Thank you for this post! As one of the prospective attendees- I truly appreciated being welcomed by so many at your event! (I’m sure everyone recognizes me based on my avatar, no? I still need to figure this out this site!)
Fantabulous event with Peter & Pat , wonderful to mingle with fellow conservatives after & I look forward to following along on this site (put me down as a lurker for now!)
