Europe, Choosing to Stand on Its Own Two Feet?

From a report on Yahoo on remarks that German Chancellor Angela Merkel delivered earlier this weekend:

“The times in which we could completely depend on others are on the way out. I’ve experienced that in the last few days,” Merkel told a crowd at an election rally in Munich, southern Germany.

“We Europeans truly have to take our fate into our own hands,” she added.

Europe, ceasing to behave like a free rider? The Chancellor herself may view her speech as an act of defiance, but doesn’t it actually validate the Trump administration’s European policy?

If I didn’t have kids myself then honestly who cares what’s going on from now on. My boy and girl mean the world to me. It’s why I vote the way I do. I want them better than I had.

In fact, only people who have kids should be able to vote.

What the heck do the other people care about the future?

Well, I don’t have kids, but I do have nieces and nephews whom I love more than life. Even if I didn’t have nieces and nephews, I like to think that I would still care about the future of all children. :) I know childless people who are conservative and people with children who are the worst sorts of leftists; I agree that it is weird that none of the G7 leaders have children, but I think you are reading too much into this. Unfortunately, if you picked a bunch of European elitists with kids, they probably wouldn’t be much different. That is the problem.

On the other hand, there’s this:

In this particular context, the G-7 Summit, to what failures could Kristol possibly be referring?

The question is, will we be willing to spend blood and treasure to bail Europe out a third time?

    No, sir, the question is:

Will the Europeans be willing to spend the treasure necessary to provide for a credible common defense?

Seems like this mess comments are geared towards a stronger more autonomous Europe – be careful what you wish for in other words Brexiters.

Yeah a Europe of Sharia Law and the death of Western principles. I’m sure the Brexiters are happy to miss out on a stronger more autonomous Europe.

    Ummm. No.

Just because an individual has not made or born a child does not mean they are empty of a worldview that sees a good future for their family and neighbors.
