Glad you said that. I don’t know why I took them to be mocking the people who have no choice about being in the situation. It seems obvious now that they’re mocking the people crazy enough to put themselves there.

It reminds me of the British movie Four Lions from a few years ago. Christopher Morris does some really biting satire on touchy subjects. I don’t know if he’s involved with this, but it bears his influence if not his direct participation.
