More Thoughts to Come, But for Now…
I was a fool to think this couldn't happen and to condescend to those who did. May the next 4 years humble me with prosperity and progress.

Guess you’re all going to have a fun NR cruise, right?
Some members may be satisfied with a half-apologetic tweet, but I want a tearful essay. If sincerity is too much to ask, humiliation is not.
Condor,
This proves the old adage, one good gif is worth a thousand tweets.
Regards,
Jim
Folks, folks, a lot of you are going way too easy on Rob here, don’t you think?
I can’t wait to listen to the next podcast!
Well, I did suggest sending NeverTrumpers to camps to perform hard labor, so no, not me!
Peter,
Perhaps you are right. OK Rob, NO MORE RUNNING WITH SCISSORS!!!
There Peter, that set him straight.
Regards,
Jim
Rob, I am so grateful that you gave us deplorables a home. Let’s see what happens now, ok?
I wish I were going on the cruise now.
IN YOUR FACE, Rob.
You did nothing for this victory. You believed the fake polls and falsely put all your trust in them. You predicted a Hillary landslide, over and over and over again. You predicted a crushing defeat down ballot and a virtual end to the Republican party. You actively hurt the Trump campaign. The duly elected Republican nominee. You discouraged untold numbers of Republican voters. You drank deeply from the Hillary Clinton propaganda machine. You channeled to us, your listeners, the lies and misdirections of John Podesta and James Carville.
Now, being revealed as the fool you confess to be, you send out a tweet that’s all about Rob Long. You’re like Obama: every statement starts with “I” and is about you. Now it’s all “Let’s be magnanimous…forgive and forget…I don’t know what I was thinking or why I did what I did…and can I get an invitation to the Lincoln Bedroom? I’m super cool, after all. Don and I are Hollywood guys, you know. We go way back….”
Enjoy your elitist National Review cruise with Jonah “pants” Goldberg and the rest of you faithless koolaid drinkers.
And I’m still not renewing my Ricochet membership.
Harsh image, but yes. I’m thinking of getting a tee shirt made that says “I was Deplorable before it was cool.”
Dude! Where will you post such epic rants if you don’t re-up??
I think Rob anticipated some rough treatment (and Peter practically encouraged it). He can take it — and you, my friend, can dish it!! Ouch.
@koblog Friend you echo my sentiments quite well. I haven’t listened to a Ricochet broadcast in two months. Rob Long has been completely obnoxious, IMHO. He invited guests on with a pro Trump POV and ridiculed, interrupted, and dissed them…he just loves the sound of Rob Long speaking. But we won!! He lost. Now’s the time to stick around and gloat. We’ve earned it.
I don’t think the venom is warrented towards Rob at all.
I think you missed the part about civil discussions. What do we discuss if we become the Borg with group-think the only thing allowed? I can’t wait to see the Trumpies, Cruzers, and Never Trumpies…all of them.
@cdor Fact check: Rob doesn’t book the guest, I do. And please point me to a show where he “ridiculed, interrupted, and dissed” any guest. I don’t think you can.
Afternoon Blue Yeti,
Dr. Arnn was not treated like a guest, he was treated with disinterest as if he had nothing worth listening to. Many folks commented on this.
Not my take at all.
Or mine. And in fact, I’ve been in contact with Larry a couple of times since that show and it wasn’t his impression either. He’s eager to come back and will return in the next few weeks.
I didn’t mean to indicate that Rob booked the guests, but isn’t he a host nonetheless? Larry Arnn and Matthew Continetti were often not allowed to finish sentences before Rob chimed in. It has, however, been my experience that Rob interrupts and dominates conversations on the podcast all the time. We were asked to let our feelings out and I did. I am not trying to be rude.
Where is @roblong on the latest podcast?
I listen to Rob Long on both the GLoP and Flagship podcasts all the time and the only one who is at dire risk of interruption is @jameslileks if Rob gets even a whiff of a commercial segue.
And there are times when Lileks shows great self control. It is fortunate for Long that he is miles away when he steps all over a brilliant segue by Lileks. That is a great example of exactly what I am talking about. But like I said, I do not wish to be rude, so this is my last word on this subject.
Afternoon Fred and Blue Yeti,
I suggest listening again and comparing it to Mr. Williamson’s and Heather MacDonald’s interview. If you can’t hear the difference I would be glad to contrast them with you in more detail. As I recall Dr. Arnn told Rob not to put words in his mouth. Also, Dr. Arnn suggested that he had had someone research Mr. Trump speeches over the recent years and that that research assured Arnn that Trump was not going to ignore the Constitution. Dr. Arnn knows a bit about the importance of the Constitution. Rob showed no interest in this and blew it off. Of course, Dr. Arnn would come back, what does that prove, only that he is not Cher, and that he is not a weenie.
At 69, my model is “Firing Line”, Buckley had many folks whose ideas he had heard a million times before or folks who he thought were foolish, but even with Mark Green, who is not the easiest person to listen to, Buckley gave Green space to expand on his views, wasn’t argumentative. With Mr. Kaus as guest, he couldn’t finish a sentence uninterrupted, I commented at the time. Sure it may be true that among friends, one is impatient with arguments one has heard before, but as part of the audience, I want to hear the arguments without interruption. We have had opportunities to ask different folks lots of questions, I think we showed a lack of curiosity. The current questions of this astounding election season are what are we to learn from this astounding election and how were we so blind. Perhaps we could think on how we might improve our podcasts. I offered criticisms of the Arnn and Kaus interview at the time. These opinions might not be common, and it may reflect my age.
I can’t listen to Milt Rosenburg’s podcasts for just this reason.
And that is always done in good humor, never malice. Rob has never been rude to any guest in any of the podcastsI have heard, and I haven’t missed any of the GLOP or flagship podcasts in at least three years. Anyone hearing interruptions is projecting.
Rob is busy making TV great again. Hope to have him back in regular rotation soon.
It is certainly true that Rob Long is no William F. Buckley. I’m quite sure he would agree with that (and he certainly doesn’t need me to defend him).
I think there is some constructive criticism on this thread and I will pass it along to the guys.
As for Mickey, he’s an old friend (and in the case of Rob and myself — a neighbor) and there is a short hand there. What you’re hearing is in effect a conversation at the local coffee shop that has been going on for 20 years.
Lol, not to reveal too much about how the sausage is made, but let me assure you that this is a bit – a long (no pun intended) running comedy routine. It’s planned and intentional.
Generally true, but Rob was dismissive with Larry Arnn in a way that I found distasteful.
