Bob Thompson: Cruz is frequently accused of delivering canned remarks on given subjects and in answer to questions. I’ve seen him respond to the same or similar question on multiple occasions and I conclude that the essence of his response is the same, as it should be, although the particular verbiage is different. He has a deep understanding of issue so his responses are going to come out the same with different words because the words are not memorized. This debate showed definitively that Rubio’s points are delivered rote. I had seen this in earlier debates but never appearing so robotic. It certainly caused some lessoning of my favorability of Rubio.

I have seen all the debates and been to town halls for (amongst those who were on the stage last night) Kasich, Rubio, Cruz, Carson, and Christie. There was pretty much nothing said last night by anyone that I hadn’t heard before. What was jarring was that Rubio repeated himself almost verbatim within a few minutes, then even after Christie called him on it, and he still went on to repeat himself almost verbatim a third, fourth, and fifth time.

Also what struck me is that Rubio looked very short standing between Bush and Trump, who are both tall.

The “hurt” for Rubio will feel will be a drop to 13% from 15%, which will make all the difference in the world, especially if Cruz stays at his 13% or even goes to 14%.
