I Miss Milt Rosenberg on the Radio (Again)

I’m a bit late with this, but I was disappointed to learn that friend to Ricochet and treasure to America Milt Rosenberg has been cut from the roster at Chicago’s WCGO radio. Nearly two years ago I posted here on Ricochet to lament that Milt had been shown the door at WGN, where he hosted “Extension 720” for almost 40 years. A few months later I gleefully posted on the establishment of his own podcast, which I’m grateful was shared here at Ricochet. He was then hired at WCGO, and it was my hope that he would continue to broadcast from there for as long as he wished. Alas, citing a loss of ad revenue, the station dropped the program at the end of November.

As I wrote back in 2013, I felt smarter every time I listened to his program. I hope Milt soon finds a new home on the radio. In the meantime, may he remain be a fixture here at Ricochet.

I absolutely adore Milt Rosenberg. Found him 7 or 8 years ago and have followed him around from place to place. If he’s lost a step I am not sure 99.9% of the population would realize it – me included. Love his taste in music, his fondness for WWII era, and his curiosity about everything. If you can, look up his terrific shows (several, at least) with Max Hastings. And see if you can find one he did with an author about Coco Chanel…. it was so wildly offbeat and interesting about her WWII exploits, and all the rumors and myths about her.

Long live Milt and may he work forever!

Whew, I was wondering why I haven’t seen a new episode from Milt. I love Milt’s show but was concerned he was having a Heath problem, glad to hear it was just an ousting and not anything too serious. Although I am sad to hear he is off the mainstream airwaves he most definitely is a national treasure and I hope he resumes his podcast on ricochet

Walker: Any chance you can bring him on as a regular Ricochet host? Directly, I mean, and not through a radio station?

    This. Please.

    Please!

Henry Castaigne:It’s a shame Milt always made you smarter.

I’ve had the good fortune to be on Milt’s show twice (shameless self-promotion – talking about my book GPS Declassified) and his show is an oasis of intelligent conversation.  His guests are A listers such as Mark Steyn.

    Freesmith:I’ll take a contrary view.

There were many things I found off-putting: the clear NPR-envy to be taken seriously…

Which brings me to my last cavil – the man is 90 years old!

Instead of a host whose first vote for President was either for Harry Truman or Henry Wallace, I’d like to see Ricochet find a replacement for Milt’s podcast in the mold of a young Steve Sailer or a Paul Kersey. You know, someone unapologetically pro-American.

Well, he’s the only person on Ricochet that I remember saying that he found Donald Trump to be “refreshing”.  That doesn’t sound like NPR to me, but I wouldn’t know as I never listen to NPR.

And what’s wrong with being 90?  That’s an accomplishment.  We should all be lucky to have such an active mind at his age.

I think he would be more willing to have guests of differing conservative and other views than many podcast hosts.

I’ve made his podcasts here a regular part of my listening rotation.  I hope they continue.

Milt Rosenberg was one of the primary reasons I initially joined Ricochet. I truly look forward to his podcasts.

I felt like I was always so woefully behind on my podcast listening from Ricochet that I had not subscribed to Milt’s offering. I will remedy that ASAP, of only to make sure that he remains available on some corner of the web.

If you are new to Milt, you can subscribe via iTunes, and go back and listen to older shows. I just downloaded 4 from April.

We expect to be back on the air fairly soon if all goes as planned. Meanwhile, my sincere thanks to all for their kind appreciations of the programs and podcasts. And as for the “age” question, do remember that 90 is the new 57!

I’ll be 57 next May.  I’m not really sure what to think about that.  ;-)
