Of All the Rhetorical Questions You Could’ve Asked…

CecileRichardsCecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, writing in The Washington Post today:

While our opponents have been working to create scandal and panic where none exists, doctors and nurses at Planned Parenthood health centers have continued to provide care to thousands of women, men and young people every day — contraception, cancer screenings, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and safe and legal abortion. Whose efforts are doing more to help families and make our country healthier?

Whose efforts are doing more to help families than an institution explicitly dedicated to preventing their formation or expansion? Ms. Richards, virtually everybody’s.

So he actually confirmed my comment. 260 deaths by abortion in one year is fairly uncommon, certainly in comparison to the 327,000 “successful” abortions by just one organization last year, and maybe a million total in general, which Jim thinks conservatives should be happy with.

[The editors have redacted this comment because the point was made in an insulting and personal way. We suggest, as a rephrasing, “Would you agree that a concern for the lives of girls and women must logically extend to the youngest of them, too?”]

The coat hanger argument is the most compelling argument for legalized abortion that there is; without the coat hanger argument, there really is no argument. Those of us who are pro-life absolutely must address that argument. We can’t shy away from it.

I am working on a post on the subject right now.

If the use of coat hangers to kill babies is evil, is not the industrial-scale killing of babies with sophisticated medical instruments and chemicals even more evil?

Basil, in order to end abortion we must address the concerns of the roughly 50% of Americans who think that it should be legal. Some of the people who comprise that 50% will never be convinced by any argument, but some of them can be turned around. I don’t believe that all who support abortion are evil; I don’t believe that 50% of Americans are monsters. As someone who believes in the Judeo Christian ethic, I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt. I don’t believe that ascribing evil motives to all who support abortion is the way to end abortion.

The act is inherently evil.  Those who support it may only be morally obtuse.  Please don’t conflate the two concepts.

I am not the one conflating the concepts of evil and moral obtuseness, you are. I think my time would be better spent working on my next post, so I won’t be participating in this thread any more, at least not right now.
