Thank You, Ricochet

I’ve been honored and humbled to be a part of Ricochet for the past year. I came here in January 2013  in search of people with conservative views who were concerned about the direction America was heading. I needed encouragement in the midst of chaos. I found that, but I also discovered something so much more. I found a community of people who shared my hopes and my dreams. I found friends—friends from all over the country, from all walks of life, with rich and fascinating backgrounds, with different political and social views, who care not about agendas, but about people. They understand that a nation isn’t built simply on laws and ideologies, but on mutual respect and love. That sense of common humanity and grace is expressed every day on Ricochet, and I have been touched by it more than you could ever know.

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to step away from Ricochet for a time because of health issues. I will post once in a while as I am able, but I won’t be engaging in the everyday smart, challenging, and fun conversations that I have been.

When I consider the future of our country, I sometimes despair. I know it will take people of strong will, noble heart, and solid principles to save it. It will take fighters. Ricochet has those fighters, and I know you won’t give up as you fight the good fight to live freely in grace and truth.

Thank you for everything you have done for me—all your support, all your encouragement, all your love. I am proud to be a part of this community, and I always will be.

Denise, my selfish side was dreading where this post was going.  It started sounding like a good bye and I would definitely hate that.  You are one of my “go-to” writers here and I will miss your thoughts on things.  Of course your health is the most important thing and we will all be praying for a speedy recovery and return.

We have not always agreed Mrs. McAllister but having sparred with you on more than one occasion I know I am the better for it.

You choose wisely. We here on Ricochet will feel the loss but there are those who have a far greater stake. See to your health, those who love you most no doubt depend on you more than you know.

    DC,

Would you do us a favor if you can? If it is a fairly benign chronic health issue, please let us know. “Health issue” can cover the scope of a Killer Hangnail to an Owie. Some of us worry that it is a Killer Hangnail and you will never type again. If it is an Owie, we will make a special Ricochet Band-aid to speed your recovery. I figure you are just being Scottish and wimping out which happens every eon to a Scot.

May God give you rest, peace. and wisdom.

There are alot of us here that share that sentiment.

Franco: Sorry to hear this, DC. Thank you so much for your particpation here. Ricochet was a much better place with your posts and comments. I hope you are just saying it’s health issues and it’s really some other less threatening issue. Hoping and praying.  · 4 hours ago

Brian McMenomy: D.C., you mentioned Deborah earlier.  I rather think of you more like Esther, who despite being scared spitless (with good reason), risked her life to expose a great evil in her king’s presence.  She did what God told her to do, when He told her to do it, and the rest is history.

You tell the truth, and do so elegantly, with good humor and kindness.  Telling the truth in the face of indifference is hard enough; in the face of opposition and ridicule is even harder. I can’t tell you how grateful I am to you for doing exactly that.

Lord, we bring our sister D.C. before You, confident in your love, mercy & ability to heal.  Give those caring for her compassion and revelation, understanding and insight, love and skill.  We ask that You touch her, mind, body & spirit, that she would see Your healing  and many would glorify You through what You do in her.

    In Jesus precious name,

Thank you, Brian. Yes, Esther does come to mind (especially the scared part, which is often the case with me :). I appreciate your prayer, and I hope to be back soon.

I will know more at the end of the month. Thank you, and everyone here for your support.

I know I keep saying it, but I have to say it again. I am so very humbled. My love has been deepened for all of you–and I do mean love! Ricochet, as ever, has my highest respect. You make me want to be better, to write better, to represent you better because you are the best!

It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon Men’s hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.

D.C., Yer presence, the beauty of Yer writing and opinions, certainly was the breath of fresh air that so wonderfully changed and renewed weary spirits Here.

    Get well soon.

I have to step away for very different reasons, but please be assured of my prayers and my hope that you return. You have a gift and I think I speak for everyone here when I ask that you use it.

If, as Robert Frost said:  Home is the place where, when you gotta go there, they gotta take you in.

Then Ricochet is the place where, when you gotta post something, you can be sure you’ll be welcomed gladly.

Get well quick, and don’t be a stranger.

Irish. Black Irish. Not that they’re different in any meaningful way from the Scots.

There are people, … a very rare sort, …that walk into a gathering and, by virtue of their personality, their intellect, and their very radiant nature, make us wonder what life was ever like before they came into our lives. Indeed, it’s like they were always there and we can’t imagine things being the same without them. You are that person, Denise, and the only thing stronger than the univeral sadness we all feel at the news that you have to step back for a time, is the strength of the prayers and good thoughts going up on your behalf. You take care, young lady, and thank you ever so much for your friendship.

    Denise,

I searched the internet for something that would be an appropriate gift to one who gives much.

Mi Shebeirach is the Jewish prayer for healing the sick.  I will say one tomorrow at minyan for you (less the harp).  It is customary to give the hebrew name of the person who you are praying for.  If you do not have one this is not a problem but an opportunity.  If you take a hebrew name it is thought mystically that the acquisition of the new name itself will heal you.

If you don’t mind, tomorrow I shall call you Devorah bat Mattathias.  Deborah, a great Torah prophetess, bat, daughter of, Mattathias, the leader of the fiercely independent Hasmonean revolt.

    Get well.

    Regards.

    Jim

10 cents– It is more than an owie, but I’m not going to die. Not yet. :) I will know more at the end of this month. It also has to do with my emotional capacity to deal with everything, and I always want to give 100% to Ricochet. I just don’t feel like I can do that right now. I’m so overwhelmed by what everyone has said. I am truly surprised (though I shouldn’t be, considering all the good-hearted folks here) and to be honest, you have all motivated me to be even better–as a person and as a writer. I’m so humbled by your kindness.

Thank you, Jimmy. “Beauty will save the world.” Not outward beauty, but the beauty of our humanness, and when we are vulnerable, when we share and connect on that level, in all the glory that we have been created to be, the heavens sing. :)
