That is one of the most amazing and inspirational things that I’ve ever seen.

Incredible and extraordinary. I’ve attended a lot of sentencings. I’ve never seen anything like that. I’m impressed with the court too for allowing the hug. That was a risk. I hope this gets a lot of attention.

Not ashamed to say I don’t have that in me. I’d be there to push the plunger, hit the switch on Old Sparky or pull the lever on the trap door. (Oh, hell. Let’s face it. Thirty seconds and a 9 mil would suffice.)

Amazing to me? All the right-leaning pundits slobbering over it. They praise forgiveness for murder… but if they were asked to offer any to Trump and/or his supporters? Not so much.

“Give your life to Christ.” That should be the outcome that a Christian wants to see. The state, on the other hand, has a different responsibility to the community.

He is following Jesus’ most challenging tenet. May we all have such forgiveness in our hearts and souls.

    Luke 17:3-4

3 So watch yourselves. “If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. 4 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”

    Matthew 6:14-15

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

You can both admire his grace AND demand justice for the murder.

With the sentence, the jury placed their assessment of culpability at the top end of criminal negligent homicide, a charge they were not allowed to consider, and the low end of murder.

I just saw the coverage of this on the Today show and the part where he mentions Christ was left out. In my mind, that is really important context to the statement as a whole. Even when they go back to the women in studio, Hoda talks about how he said, “Give your life” but never finishes the sentence.

Touching. To will the good for another is St. Thomas Aquinas’ definition of love. That young man is an inspiration. God bless.

Sigh….. they really can’t help themselves, can they?

To give credit where credit is due, MSNBC handled this well, and included the statement by Botham Jean’s brother that his murderer should give her life to Christ. Link here. Even Al Sharpton handled it pretty well, though he thought that the sentence should have been longer (it was 10 years) and couldn’t resist making a smack at the President.
