Gosnell Red Carpet Premiere (VIDEO)
Our latest episode of Whiskey Politics (video below) joins the stars on the red carpet premiere of the movie Gosnell, The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer. The script was written by our good friend @AndrewKlavan and stars Dean Cain and Nick Searcy, who also directs. This movie shouldn’t have happened as Hollywood blacklisted any investment, all distribution channels and social media banned any advertising (such as the trailer below). But with crowdfunding and years of dedication, the movie will be released tomorrow across the country. The movie was very good and compelling. It’s handling sensitive issues in a way that makes the audience think, while not gratuitously showing scenes none of us would want to see. It’s appropriate for kids, although that will be a tough discussion on the ride home. If you enjoy Law and Order, you will sink right into this.

Thank you for this post! This movie will playing right down the street from me tomorrow night, and I will be there.
Like the pocket square, Dave. Dapper.
Nice job on this.
At last! Thanks, Dave!
A must see. “Zo” is awesome!
I also want a special shout-out to @6foot2inhighheels who literally was up all night editing (I got the 2AM pacific texts from back East to prove it) to get this up before the movie opened. Amazing job, thanks Melissa!
Thanks for the mention of it. I made a small contribution when they were crowdfunding, and later got used to ignoring all the followup emails I got. I wasn’t planning to bother to go see it, partly because I just don’t go to watch movies anymore. But your recommendation makes me reconsider.
I gave money to the Indiegogo campaign for this movie way back when. I’ve got tickets reserved for a 4:15 showing at a theater about an hour and 20 minutes from my house. It’s playing in two theaters in my state and the other one is like 2 and a half hours away. Can’t wait!
Thanks. I will post this to my FB page as soon as the post is promoted to the main feed.
Dean Cain proves he really still is a Super Man.
I plan to go see it just to buy the ticket.
Wow. A gripping trailer.
I could not stomach watching the movie – but I hope millions do!
Am about to leave to go see this movie. Just want to say: Phenomenonal Post !
Hey, thanks for this post and the kind words, Dave. Movies live and die on their opening weekends, so I hope you guys’ll show up if you can. Everyone involved was highly alert to the painful subject matter and went out of their way to tell the story for its dramatic value not for shock and gore.
We could make a whole other movie called: “Excuses for Not Telling This Story By Journalists and Filmmakers.” Which would be a tragi-comedy.
Agreed Andrew. The ONLY way for Hollywood to greenlight these movies is if they make money.
Also, what you said about the delicate way you wrote this so there is little if no gore, is commendable. Such a hard issue to illustrate, but I think you handled it somewhat similar to Speilbergs shark. We knew it was there but not seeing it (at first) may have made it even more terrifying. Job well done!
We purchased tickets, but I can’t go. Praying it rakes in millions.
Going to see it tomorrow night and encouraging friends to join.
So I saw Gosnell. I was transfixed. It was powerful.
Certainly some of the power of the movie is in the quiet, understated way it reveals that Gosnell’s crimes were inadvertently concealed and enabled by people who had reason to suspect something but didn’t want to make enemies, or make themselves more vulnerable to enemies, by appearing to oppose abortion or abortion clinics.
Except for the guy who plays Gosnell, all of the acting in the movie is between very good and good enough. The guy who plays Gosnell is magnificent. His portrayal of Gosnell going between jovial or petulent self deception and malevolent, somehow knowing, affability is really creepy.
Congratulations to Andrew Klavan for writing a great screenplay. ( We knew he would) .
I just want to add that whoever made the decisions about what the camera should get in close-up is a genius. I’m thinking of the mother playing with her smiling baby’s feet, the turtles being collected and taken out of the clinic, and the Cheshire-cat quality of Gosnell’s smile.—Oh, and the scene with the fleas.
Back during the second season of Lois and Clark (I think, but it might have been the first), a member of the crew for the show was diagnosed with leukemia. Cain sent out an email to the L&C fan list (which I was on) recruiting bone marrow donors. He’s a prince of a guy, from what I have read over the years.

Congrats to all for this awesome movie!! An incredibly powerful and moving story of such “painful subject matter”.
Many are blind and intentionally ignorant of abortion. They don’t want to know about its truth. I hope many who are ‘pro-choice’ go see it. For me, the scene that made the most impact, and powerful truth for the pro abortion crowd, was in the courtroom. Nick Searcy’s portrayal of Gosnell’s attorney was masterful. And when he had the nice, clean, articulate, hygienic, 30,000 and counting abortionist lady on the stand, he demonstrated clearly and forcefully that what she did was really not all that different than what Gosnell did. And even less humanely. #SilentScream

Defies the odds with ratings triumph …
Maybe the mainstream media will protect the right of the people not to know about this.
@davesussman and @andrewklavan … is there any youtube clip available of the courtroom scene where Gosnell’s attorney (Nick Searcy) is questioning the ‘nice, clean, pearl-wearing, articulate’ Planned Parenthood lady abortionist (who testified to aborting >30,000 babies?), and he points out very clearly that there is basically no difference between what she does/did and what Gosnell did (other than maybe being partially in the womb rather than fully delivered like Gosnell often did.
