Leading up to the US Election in October, the mainstream press were pushing the narrative that Russia was either behind DNC/Podesta leaks or planning a Cyber Attack on Voting infrastructure. All this was assured by The U.S. Intelligence Community in October which NYT, Newsweek and Washington Post jumped upon.
Back 20th September 2016 a declassified DHS report titled ‘Cyber Threats and Vulnerabilities to US Election Infrastructure, Office of Cyber and Infrastructure Analysis‘ concluded the following:
“DHS has no indication that adversaries or criminals are planning cyber operations against US election infrastructure that would change the outcome of the coming US election. Multiple checks and redundancies in US election infrastructure—including diversity of systems, non-Internet connected voting machines, pre-election testing, and processes for media, campaign, and election officials to check, audit, and validate results—make it likely that cyber manipulation of US election systems intended to change the outcome of a national election would be detected.”
One of the few outlets to challenge the Russia Cybertheory was the most unlikely news outlet CNN.
No, the presidential election can’t be hacked – Tal Kopan, CNN Wed October 19, 2016Â
“Nobody is going to be able to change the outcome of the presidential vote by hacking voting machines. The system is too distributed, too decentralized, too many implementations for any individual actor or group to make substantial change,” said Nicholas Weaver, a computer scientist and cybersecurity expert at the International Computer Science Institute at the University of California, Berkeley.“Yes, they’re horribly insecure, yes, many of them give me nightmares,” he continued, “but the attacker’s not going to be able to change the outcome of the presidential vote that way.”When the Cyber Attacks on November 8th failed to materialize, the mainstream media found Russia again up to no good. Focused on attacking Think Tanks, according to Cyber Security industry experts.
Russian hackers accused of post-election attacks on U.S. think tanks – By Jim Finkle and Dustin Volz, REUTERS Thu Nov 10, 2016
“A Russian hacking group began attacking U.S.-based policy think tanks within hours of Donald Trump’s presidential election victory, according to cyber experts who suspect Moscow is seeking information on the incoming administration.”
However all is not lost, as GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham has swallowed enough ‘Click-Bait’ that he’s wanting Congress to investigate Russian cyberattack on the DNC. “Putin should be punished,” said Sen. Graham.
