The moderators for the presidential debates were announced earlier today and ... seriously?  Candy Crowley (town hall presidential debate) and Bob Schieffer (third debate)? Jim Lehrer (first debate) is a pro, priding himself on remaining neutral and allowing all parties time to express their positions. As for ABC's Martha Raddatz (vice presidential debate),  I don't know;  jump ball?

I'd like to see the following moderators: Mark Steyn, Jonah Goldberg, Conrad Black, and Ted Nugent. Because the VP debate will be so much fun anyway, I think I'd have Black moderate that one. The others can bring some mirth to the debates in which our Dear Leader participates.

Who would you like to see as moderators?  (And no it can't be Long, Lileks, and Robinson).

I was disappointed, but not surprised to see Candy Crowley announced.

Why not Rich Lowry?  Rob Long?

What about the greatest interviewer since Mr. Buckley himself?  Our own Peter Robinson?

Schieffer moderated the third Bush v Kerry debate, and the third Obama v McCain debate. Born 1937...

Author of a book about Reagan, The Acting President:

the story of the Reagan presidency is the story of his advisors--their opinions, policies, schemes, intrigues, and misdeeds--not Ronald Reagan's leadership or vision. Reagan was a disengaged, passive president to whom decision making and policy making meant hiring experts and following their advice. This environment was ripe for misadventures such as the Iran-contra scandal, where aides, in Reagan's name, made national policy, unchecked and unmanaged. ... perhaps Reagan was too lazy or too content and satisfied a man to exercise leadership and manage his presidency.

Candy "Ticket Death Wish" Crowley should be a fun 'moderator' of a Town Hall 'debate' featuring 'uncommitted independents'...

Perhaps our own Troy Senik.  He has experience with a President and unimpeachable credentials when it comes to dealing with exigent personalities (a la Epstein and Yoo).

Failing that, I would have liked to have seen a Brett Baier or Chris Wallace.  I think they could both rise to the challenge and remain sufficiently neutral.

They could at least have gotten Jake Tapper.

We'll have to bring them from other worlds, but how about Gore Vidal and William F. Buckley?   The questions would be a lot more interesting than the answers.  And they might finish that little tiff they had.

The way WFB talked, it'd take the first 30 minutes for him to ask the first question.

Any of the above mentioned names would be wonderful.

What will be essential is that Romney and Ryan understand is that in all likelihood the Moderator, the Press, and, depending on the setting, some members of the audience are not their friends, no matter how friendly they seem.

Go on a Charm Offensive, and cut them (and Obama) to the quick with Facts Well Presented that show Obama to be a buffoon and Romney & Ryan to be our Best & Most Real Hope for the next 4 years and beyond.

Hugh Hewitt would be my first choice. He makes lefties cry. And he would do justice to the occasion with some much needed lawerly follow-up questions.

Britt Hume would be my second choice. He's the best journalist on the air (all too infrequently). I think even Democrats view him as fair.

All good choices. As long as we're dreaming, can we do away with the live audience?

The wrong Crowley. It should be Monica Crowley.

Dennis Praeger would be great too.

I still like the idea of Justice Thomas sitting there in his judicial robes staring down Obama.

Newt Gingrich.

Not only can he ask questions, he can critique the other moderators as well.

But would that be a bad thing?  And the fistfight that would break out between him and Vidal would be great.  Since we're resurrecting them, I want them when they're both, say, 38 years old.  Old enough for some maturity, but young enough to duke it out seriously.

I will put in a vote for Professors Sowell and Williams.

You are 100% correct. By the time Hewitt interviews public figures, he usually knows more about them than they even know about themselves. That's how he knows exactly which part of the maze to trap them in.
