I'm just wondering if there's a single thing about their media-swallowed initial spin that was right.

The last line is the most striking though: "What's clear is that the public won't get a detailed account of what happened until after the election."

What is fascinating is that the mainstream press -- CBS, of all networks -- does not think that it can just let this pass.

This cannot be good for Barack Obama.

How can Ambassador Stevens' family not think his death was meaningless to this administration?

An American ambassador and three others, our men in Libya, worked to represent the United States and their deaths are swept away until after the election. Unbelievable.

Turning this into a law-enforcement issue is like winding the clock back to first bombing of twin towers, hence setting the stage for the next 911. This makes me physically ill.

The Obama Administration keeps telling the press, "Nothing to see here folks. Just move along. Nothing to see." And the press keeps buying the line.

Amazing, however, that a CBS reporter actually admits that the facts will remain hidden until after the election. I wonder if that reporter has been fired yet?

The FBI is still not on the scene?

What's the hold-up? Isn't it important to get to the "scene of the crime" quickly?

I'll bet the reporters are relieved that they won't need the usual spine-pretzeling explanations for why this utter failure is really a foreign policy triumph - - ya know, it's another shining moment, if you think about it!

And what about ABC news interviewing Glen Doherty who stated he was working for the State Department to locate weapons.  From the ABC webiste of Sept. 13:

"In an interview with ABC News last month, Glen Doherty, a 42-year-old former Navy SEAL who worked as a contractor with the State Department, said he personally went into the field to track down so-called MANPADS, shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles, and destroy them. After the fall of dictator Moammar Gadhafi, the State Department launched a mission to round up thousands of MANPADS that may have been looted from military installations across the country. U.S. officials previously told ABC News they were concerned the MANPADS could fall into the hands of terrorists, creating a threat to commercial airliners."

Is it possible the other Seal was doing the same thing?  Since the Ambassador was the negotiator for the rebels getting the weapons initially to go against Gadhafi, was he part of the group looking for the weapons?  Lots of questions, but nothing answered by the State Deptment or the Administration that is straight forward.

This is going to fester....

If the election were in say ninety days, does anyone think the administration would have their report in the mandated sixty days?

Who would make them?

Another theory is, it was a carefully-planned, but botched, kidnapping. Unlike his companions, Stevens was not executed, but died of smoke inhalation before they could take control of him. If they took him to the hospital, it was to reclaim his value as a hostage.

This might be credible if one squints to obscure the detail in the photos of them dragging the fellow through the streets.  But the video that emerged of him being dragged from the "safe house" is pretty incontrovertible:  excited babbling in arabic while he's dragged out and examined.  Then it is determined that the ambassador is dead -- and the crowd explodes in jubilation and Allahu Akbars, jumping about and generally being ecstatic.

Now the only part that remains unsubstantiated are the stories from inside the islamist mob saying that the ambassador was sodomized (probably with a stick, like Ghaddafi was).  First, did this happen, and second, was it prior to death, or was it simply desecration of a cadaver?  This can be determined with some certainty by forensic science when the body is returned.  But I don't expect them to release their findings.

Whatever happened to Obama's story that these good Libyans were carrying his injured body to the hospital. Why is the press so incurious about the man's death? I have a hard time believing the "died of smoke inhalation" story.

Did anybody hear that when the house intelligence committee asked State to send over someone for a briefing last week and State ignored them?  This is unprecedented.

There is something major going on here and nobody's talkin'.

We had an ambassador (who believed himself to be on al Qaeda's hit list) killed and the al Qaeda flag raised over 5 embassies, on 9/11.  It's obvious to me that these were coordinated attacks with the video as a pretext. Coordinated by al Qaeda. But I thought Obama had neutralized al Qaeda!

I heard a pretty amazing story on NPR that says the Americans did in fact have intelligence indications of trouble:

I was also pleased to see Senator Collins acting like a Republican. I don't get to say this often, but Go Maine Lady!

Yes this relates to weapons.

You know its gone south when Susan Collins is shocked and appalled....

The only justification I can see for waiting to tell the American people what has happened would be if actionable intelligence was on the table and a SPECOPS team was en route to kill or capture those responsible.
