Yes, we've got two ticked off law professors on our hands today. They go into great detail about the SCOTUS decision, Justice Robert's possible motivations for ruling the way he did, and then take a look at the Arizona immigration decision as well.

Re: Ticked Off
I'm a little late as I wanted to see if I could get a question to the guys about the consequences for not paying the penalty/tax/whatever. I had heard that there is no consequence and so it makes me wonder if that will create more problems that will point what kind of a power grab this is.

EJ, thanks for the great big chuckle. I think that pic snapped me out of my funk....or maybe these beers...

Re: Ticked Off
I could listen to Richard Epstein all day. I could listen to him reading his grocery list aloud.
Re: Ticked Off
I could arrange that...

Re: Ticked Off
Blue Yeti, can you get Mr. Epstein a Blue Yeti? I think he would sound better.

Re: Ticked Off
Troy,
Thank you for asking that question about the anti-injunction/tax issue. I have listened to Richard's explanation several times, I still do not understand the issue. I believe that was the intent of the ruling.
Re: Ticked Off
He has one, but he did not have it with him for these last two shows.

Re: Ticked Off
Thanks for hooking me up, Troy! Now if we could just get Richard to speak English for the lay folk. ;) No, it was helpful even though the bate Richard would like to fight on the general welfare clause does seem lost long, long ago. And John, I'm old school Galactica.

Re: Ticked Off
"bate" above should be "battle". Stupid auto-correct!

Re: Ticked Off
I had never heard a deeper explanation of the "promote the general welfare" meaning in the Constitution. Ever since hearing the preamble in "Schoolhouse Rock" I've assumed the "promote the general welfare" line implied the support of advertising for things like anti-smoking/don't play with matches/get your prostate checked.

An excellent, but depressing hour. Fortunately capped by a perfect (dare I say brilliant?) closing song selection. One of my favorite Elvis songs!

Yes.
"He thought he was the King of America"
"He was a fine idea at the time, now he's a brilliant mistake."
Hmmm...resonates with me.
