Maybe they stole his string ( pictured ) and he needed it to keep his stuff together !I think that is string , unless they're using thai sticks as bait .

And that was after he spent five minutes pawing at the wanted photo, trying to free the man who looked like him trapped inside the poster.

Or maybe he was playing his get out of town free card. I can think of a few situations where turning yourself in to US soldiers would be a smart move.

You could probably make it generic and achieve great success.
"Are you a terrorist? Tired of living in a cave? Got a weapon cache cluttering up your space? Turn yourself in! Now paying $200 per written confession! We pay more for your IEDs than our competitors... or we'll DOUBLE your cash!"
All we need is a cool mascot, and maybe a jingle for radio ads.

This reminds me of the petty thieves who commit some minor offense on very cold winter nights so they can get a cell and a meal. It seems to me the real prize would be to win a trip to Gitmo, with the workout rooms, library, 3 squares, and soccer field.

I should hope so. I mean lets be honest he kind of deserves it. Certainly if it was me I would give him the money it seems only fair. We are Americans after all we like playing fair....

This kind of reminds of a younger cousin of mine that is, let's just say "judgment challenged". He was 16 years old, intoxicated and leaving a party. While leaving in his car (along with a friend of his) he gets hit from behind by another car. Very little damage but my cousin got the license plate of the car fleeing. He decides to go to the police station to report the "hit and run" and give the license plate #. So he not only walks into the station after driving there intoxicated and underage....he, get this, forgot to remove the joint and had tucked into his ear a couple hours beforehand.
